Infrastructure Server Engineer

Location: Hybrid / UK-based

Contract Length: 6 Months

IR35 Status: Inside IR35

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Infrastructure Server Engineer to support a large-scale server estate modernisation programme across on-premise and cloud environments. This Server Engineer role is heavily focused on server discovery, analysis, remediation, upgrade, migration, and decommissioning activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing existing Windows and SQL Server environments, understanding server dependencies and hosted applications, identifying opportunities for consolidation or retirement, and delivering server upgrade and migration projects. This is a hands-on infrastructure role requiring strong experience of Windows Server and SQL Server upgrades within enterprise environments.

Candidates must be comfortable investigating legacy server estates, engaging with stakeholders to understand business dependencies, and executing migration and decommissioning activities while minimising operational risk.

Server Engineer Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct discovery and assessment activities across Windows and SQL Server estates to understand server purpose, dependencies, applications, and business ownership.
  • Analyse existing infrastructure and produce recommendations for upgrades.
