VIQU have partnered with a leading engineering organisation seeking a Harness Design Engineer to join their Electrical Engineering Team. This hands-on role will focus on the concept development, routing, design, and validation of low and high voltage harness systems for future vehicle platforms, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure robust, manufacturable designs are delivered to cost, quality, and timing targets.

Key Responsibilities of the Harness Design Engineer:

  • Develop concept designs and detailed layouts for LV and HV harness systems and electrical component packaging
  • Take ownership of harness routing, including mounting of electrical components, brackets, and associated fittings
  • Identify engineering needs, define requirements, and support problem definition through concept to delivery
  • Create and maintain 3D harness designs using SolidEdge (or similar) in line with engineering standards and ISO practices
  • Support engineering change control activities, including documentation and design updates
  • Work cross-functionally with Engineering, Production, Aftermarket, and Sales to ensure all design requirements are met
  • Drive Design for Manufacture & Assembly (DFMA) best practice across harness and component designs
  • Provide support through product launch, including resolving build issues and supporting integration activities
  • Ensure quality and environmental procedures, records, and documentation relevant to the role are upheld

Key Requirements of the Harness Design Engineer:

  • Proven experience in Electrical Distribution Systems (EDS), specifically electrical harness layout design
  • Strong working knowledge of 3D CAD software (SolidEdge or similar)
  • Previous electrical engineering experience within transport, automotive, or vehicle-related engineering
  • Experience designing for a range of manufacturing processes, with a DFMA mindset
  • Working knowledge of ISO standards and engineering best practice for harness and EDS design
  • Experience with engineering change control processes and technical documentation
  • Strong awareness of cost, quality, and timing trade-offs within an engineering environment
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively across multiple engineering disciplines
  • Ability to work autonomously, manage workload effectively, and deliver to agreed timescales
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365
  • HNC/HND/Apprenticeship (or equivalent) in Engineering
