A leading organisation within the UK renewable energy sector is seeking a C&I Solar O&M Field Engineer to support the operation and maintenance of commercial and industrial solar PV sites across the UK.

This role will focus on planned preventative maintenance, reactive fault-finding, electrical testing, and remedial works across rooftop and ground-mount solar installations.

Working closely with operational and technical teams, you will help ensure assets operate safely, reliably, and at optimum output whilst maintaining high standards of electrical and health and safety compliance.

You will play a key role in identifying and resolving technical issues, monitoring system performance, and supporting clients throughout maintenance and repair activities across a growing portfolio of solar assets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance visits across commercial and industrial rooftop and ground-mount solar PV sites.
  • Diagnose and resolve faults across inverters, string and combiner boxes, DC and AC electrical systems, monitoring equipment, and mounting systems.
  • Complete electrical testing and inspection, including insulation resistance, earth continuity, and string IV curve testing.
  • Complete site documentation including RAMS, permits to work, service reports, and defect logs.
  • Identify system underperformance using monitoring platforms and carry out practical on-site diagnostic activities.
  • Work closely with the O&M and operations teams to prioritise site visits, escalate significant defects, and plan remedial works.
  • Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with relevant health and safety procedures and electrical standards.
  • Support warranty claims and liaise with manufacturers regarding defective components and equipment.
  • Maintain company vehicles, tools, test equipment, and PPE in good working condition.
  • Maintain accurate records relating to equipment, testing, calibration, maintenance, and site activities.
  • Act as a professional point of contact for clients and site hosts during O&M visits.
  • Contribute to maintaining high standards of quality, reliability, and customer service across the solar portfolio.

About You

You are a hands-on and safety-conscious electrical professional with experience working on grid-connected solar PV systems, ideally within commercial, industrial, or utility-scale environments.

You enjoy working independently in the field whilst maintaining strong communication with clients and internal teams.

You are methodical, organised, and confident diagnosing electrical and technical faults, with a strong commitment to safe working practices and delivering high-quality maintenance services.

Essential Experience & Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Electrical Installation, or a recognised electrical apprenticeship.
  • City & Guilds 2391 Inspection & Testing or equivalent, or willingness to obtain this.
  • Proven hands-on experience working with grid-connected solar PV systems.
  • Strong understanding of DC and AC electrical systems and inverter technology.
  • Knowledge of solar PV safety hazards, isolation procedures, and safe working practices.
  • Full, clean UK Driving Licence and willingness to travel extensively across the UK.
  • Working at Height, IPAF, or PASMA certification.
  • CSCS card or relevant construction site safety certification.
  • First Aid at Work qualification.
  • Experience with commercial and industrial rooftop mounting systems and different roof types.
  • Familiarity with solar monitoring and SCADA platforms such as Solar Edge, Huawei, SMA, or Solarman.
  • Experience working with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety at Work legislation and CDM Regulations.
