A leading organisation within the UK utilities and infrastructure sector is seeking an experienced Overhead Linesman to support the construction, maintenance and repair of electricity networks across the Cambridgeshire area. This is a varied and rewarding role where you will play a key part in maintaining safe and reliable electricity infrastructure, working across LV and up to 11kV overhead networks. You will be responsible for carrying out planned works, fault response, inspections and repairs, while ensuring all activities are completed safely and to the required industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Construct, maintain and repair overhead electricity networks up to 11kV.
  • Install and replace poles, conductors, insulators and associated overhead line equipment.
  • Carry out planned maintenance, fault response and emergency restoration works.
  • Support network reinforcement, diversion and asset replacement projects.
  • Work safely at height using approved climbing and access techniques.
  • Carry out testing procedures and dynamic risk assessments on HV and LV overhead lines.
  • Undertake network inspections and identify defects requiring remedial works.
  • Complete site documentation and maintain accurate work records.
  • Liaise professionally with customers, landowners and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure all activities are completed in line with company procedures, DNO standards and health and safety legislation.
  • Lead and support a two-person team on site, coaching apprentices and less experienced colleagues where required.

About You

You are an experienced Overhead Linesman with a strong background working on electricity distribution networks up to 11kV. You will have a good understanding of overhead line construction, maintenance, fault-finding and testing activities, with the ability to work safely and effectively within a safety-critical environment. Experience working within a DNO environment, particularly across the Eastern Power Networks area, would be highly advantageous. You will be confident working at height, completing dynamic risk assessments and following strict safety procedures. You will also be comfortable working independently and as part of a wider team, with the ability to support and guide less experienced colleagues.

Essential Experience & Qualifications

  • Proven experience working on overhead electricity networks up to 11kV.
  • Strong understanding of overhead line construction, maintenance and fault-finding.
  • Experience carrying out testing procedures and dynamic risk assessments on HV and LV overhead lines.
  • Live Working Accompaniment accreditation.
  • Strong commitment to health and safety within a safety-critical environment.
  • Confidence working at height and using approved climbing and access techniques.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working within a DNO environment.
  • Current DNO competency authorisations, or the ability to obtain them.
  • Pole Top Rescue and First Aid qualifications.
  • MEWP or HGV qualifications.
  • Relevant NPTC or electricity distribution authorisations.
  • Experience leading or mentoring apprentices and less experienced team members.
  • Knowledge of LV and 11kV electricity distribution networks.
