An exceptional opportunity has arisen for an experienced Business Architect to join a major, nationally significant infrastructure programme that will play a critical role in the UK's long-term energy and sustainability strategy. As Business Architect, you will play a key role in bridging strategy and execution, designing business capabilities, operating models, governance structures, and transformation roadmaps that enable large-scale delivery. The role sits within Digital & IT, a department which is accountable for providing Enterprise IT infrastructure and application to the business and selected partners. This is a highly visible role with significant stakeholder exposure, offering the opportunity to influence at senior leadership level and leave a lasting impact on a nationally important programme.

The Role

  • Lead the design and development of business architecture frameworks, standards, and best practices.
  • Define and implement target operating models, capability maps, business processes, and organisational structures.
  • Translate strategic business objectives into practical, scalable operating solutions.
  • Act as an ambassador for Digital, building strong relationships with stakeholders, confidently presenting to senior audiences, and providing subject-matter expertise across your projects.
  • Support governance, investment decisions, and transformation prioritisation.
  • Identify business risks, dependencies, opportunities, and emerging change demands.
  • Drive consistency, efficiency, and long-term value across business transformation initiatives.

About You

We're looking for someone who combines strategic thinking with practical delivery experience. You will ideally bring:

  • Proven experience in a Business Architect or similar strategic role.
  • Familiarity with digital transformation and large-scale organisational change frameworks.
  • Strong knowledge of business architecture frameworks, methodologies, and governance practices.
  • Experience designing and implementing target operating models within complex organisations.
  • Background working in large-scale, highly regulated environments such as infrastructure, construction, engineering, utilities, energy, transport, or major capital projects would be useful.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and challenge at executive level.
  • Experience operating within digital transformation or business change programmes.
