We are seeking an experienced Technical Director to lead and shape the technical and design capability of a high-voltage electrical connections business operating within the ICP and utilities sector. This senior leadership position is responsible for setting technical direction, ensuring regulatory compliance, and embedding best practice across HV projects up to 132kV.

The role combines strategic oversight with hands-on governance, providing assurance that all design and engineering activity meets required standards while supporting long-term business growth. You will play a key role in maintaining accreditations, strengthening client confidence, and developing high-performing technical teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set and lead the technical strategy for HV design and engineering functions, aligning delivery with commercial objectives.
  • Hold accountability for the approval and assurance of HV network designs in line with industry and accreditation requirements.
  • Maintain compliance with all relevant statutory, regulatory, and framework obligations across design activities.
  • Act as a senior technical authority when engaging with clients, network operators, regulators, and industry bodies.
  • Drive improvements in design efficiency, quality, and innovation across the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental standards are consistently upheld.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support successful project outcomes.
  • Develop, mentor, and lead technical managers and engineers, building depth, resilience, and succession.
  • Stay informed on changes to HV standards, network policy, and regulatory expectations.

Skills & Experience

  • Extensive experience in senior technical or design leadership roles within HV electricity networks (11kV–132kV).
  • Strong working knowledge of NERS, ENA standards, and HV network compliance requirements.
  • Proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary engineering teams in a commercially driven environment.
  • Confident managing multiple complex workstreams and competing priorities.
  • Strong client-facing capability with the ability to influence at senior levels.
  • Commercially minded, able to align technical governance with business performance.
