About the Role
This is a fully remote role
A leading organisation within the UK water and environmental infrastructure sector is seeking a Design Engineer to join its engineering team on an initial 3-month fixed-term contract.
This role will focus on transforming innovative R&D concepts into detailed engineering designs, supporting the development of high-quality products used across the municipal water industry.
Working closely with the Design Office Manager and Research & Development team, you will be responsible for producing accurate 3D models, technical drawings and manufacturing documentation while ensuring designs meet engineering standards and are suitable for production.
You will play a key role in bringing new concepts to life, supporting engineering excellence and contributing to the delivery of innovative solutions within a collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce detailed 3D models from concepts developed by the Research & Development team.
- Ensure designs are suitable for standard manufacturing processes and production requirements.
- Produce technical drawings in line with company procedures and industry standards.
- Create general arrangement drawings, manufacturing drawings and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Support the preparation of engineering job packs, ensuring all documentation is accurate and complete.
- Attend design reviews and engineering meetings when required.
- Monitor and maintain high standards across all engineering design work.
- Support the maintenance of engineering documentation and departmental procedures.
- Ensure compliance with company Health & Safety policies and engineering processes.
- Maintain accurate departmental records and contribute to continuous improvement activities.
About You You are a proactive Mechanical Design Engineer with experience producing high-quality engineering drawings and 3D models.
You have a strong understanding of manufacturing processes and enjoy working collaboratively with engineering and R&D teams to develop practical, innovative solutions.
You are organised, analytical and capable of managing your own workload while maintaining high standards of quality and accuracy.
You are comfortable working within a fast-paced engineering environment and are committed to delivering designs that are both functional and manufacturable.
Essential Experience & Qualifications
- Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent engineering qualification and relevant industry experience.
- Previous experience working within a mechanical design engineering role.
- Strong experience producing and interpreting technical engineering drawings.
- Experience creating general arrangement drawings, manufacturing drawings and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Proficient in 3D CAD software, with Autodesk Inventor and Auto CAD experience highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of design for manufacture and standard engineering processes.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
Desirable
- Previous experience working for an OEM or engineering equipment manufacturer.
- Experience within the UK water, utilities or municipal water sector.
- Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
- Experience supporting Research & Development or new product development activities.
