This company is seeking a proactive Chargehand to support their production teams to ensure smooth operations across rolling mills and cold rolled production. This company specialises in steel manufacturing and steel construction. They are market leaders for what they do and have won many awards. They complete projects from start to finish, starting with design and manufacture all the way through to installation and delivery. They work on a broad range of projects and use several construction solutions.
This role is to support the effective day-to-day running of factory operations by coordinating production activities, supervising teams, ensuring health & safety compliance, and driving productivity to meet delivery targets. The Chargehand plays a key role in maintaining workflow between design, purchasing, and production, while ensuring quality, compliance, and continuous improvement standards are upheld. This is a hands-on supervisory role, ideal for someone with strong organisational skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to drive performance while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.
Key Responsibilities- Lead morning production meetings to prioritise daily tasks
- Support management with day-to-day planning and scheduling of production
- Monitor work in progress to meet delivery deadlines
- Manage internal projects focused on continuous improvement
- Assist with processing production documentation and technical drawings
- Liaise with purchasing to align material availability with production needs
- Ensure compliance with CE procedures and ISO standards, including audits
- Supervise, motivate, and support factory teams where required
- Enforce health, safety, fire safety, and PPE regulations across departments
- Carry out quality spot checks and ensure frames meet assurance standards
- Help resolve assembly and production issues quickly and effectively
- Complete production and quality assurance documentation accurately
- Perform routine maintenance and safety checks in line with schedules
- Drive production targets, ensuring bonus levels are exceeded
- Undertake any other duties necessary to meet business needs
- Previous experience within a manufacturing or steel environment
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- A proactive problem-solver with excellent organisational abilities
- Knowledge of health & safety, CE compliance, and ISO standards
- Ability to motivate teams and ensure a high standard of output
