Reporting to: Business Unit General Manager

Business Unit: UK Plant & Equipment

Purpose of the Position: The Finance Business Partner will provide support to the Business Unit General Manager (BUGM) to assist with the effective running of the business unit. They are required to build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with the Operational and Administrative staff within their BU. They will possess excellent communication skills, both written and oral, have strong commercial awareness, and be able to work in a fast-paced environment. They will indirectly report into the Financial Controller providing accurate and timely financial information including monthly reports and management accounts.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Key Objectives
    • Responsible for the finance and control of the entire BU.
    • Advises and supports the BUGM and Operational staff by providing and interpreting analytical information to enable effective decision making.
    • Provides support in ensuring that the rules, principles and the internal control requirements of the Group are met.
    • Ensuring the Business Unit meets all its reporting obligations.
  • General Accounting
    • Accurately recording transactions in a timely manner and in accordance with the group and accounting rules.
    • Justification of the Balance Sheet figures by performing Balance Sheet reconciliations.
    • Monitor and report Off-Balance Sheet commitments.
    • Be prepared to develop / apply the technical accounting knowledge obtained in their professional training to ensure the correct treatment of financial transactions.
    • Able to manage all audit inquiries and justify financial decision making and control processes.
  • Payroll & Tax
    • Provide support and assistance to the Payroll Administrator as and when required.
    • Utilise VAT knowledge to advise BU on VAT implications on certain transactions.
  • Financial Planning & Analysis
    • Be actively involved with the Annual Budget preparation process.
    • Regular analysis of KPI's such as invoice lag, debtors, variances and productive hours.
    • Analyse and explain overhead spend and variances to budget.
    • Provide analysis to forecast the performance of the business against budget in order to aid decision making.
    • Data mining and manipulation to help with the points mentioned above.
    • Assist the BUGM in obtaining market intelligence to facilitate strategy and budget formulation.
  • Cash Management
    • Make sure invoicing is always maximised.
    • Ensure effective and efficient credit control in the BU.
    • Make sure the setting up and payment of suppliers are performed in accordance with our control procedures and agreed payment terms.
  • Control and Reporting
    • Support the BUGM to control overhead spend to be kept within budget.
    • Ensure all monthly and quarterly BU and Group reporting is done within the set timescales.
    • Assist with providing BU Information for the statutory year end audit.
    • Ensure the BU complies with the group's Internal Control procedures which includes leading the Internal Control reporting for the BU.
  • Administration & Other
    • Lead and participate in the administration of the BU and the team.
    • Completion of other non-financial reporting obligations of the BU such as National Statistics information, Sustainable Development and HR reporting.
    • Act as a catalyst to drive forward initiatives to achieve business strategy.
    • Managing and delivering projects on an ad-hoc basis that deliver real improvements in the effective management of the BU.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • CIMA / ACCA, Degree or equivalent accounting qualification.

Desirable criteria

  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Hold a Full UK Driving Licence.
