Quantity Surveyors are part of the commercial team looking after the financial side of a construction project. Working on live facility management contracts, managing budgets, costs, invoices, negotiating with sub-contractors, and dealing with contracts.

Responsibilities

  • To assist with the procurement of materials and off-site services
  • To assist with procurement and cost control of sub-contractors
  • To assist with the payments
  • Develop an understanding of cost control
  • Develop an understanding of programming and sequencing
  • To assist with sub-contract administration
  • To support project close-out and archiving of accounts
  • Assist in the implementation of the most appropriate solutions for construction projects
  • Be able to apply different types of contracts to different situations
  • Assist in the selection of and negotiation with specialist contractors for a construction project
  • Assist in the measurement and costing of construction works during a project
  • Assist in the preparation of financial reports, cash flow and cost forecasts for a construction project
  • Assist in the collection, collation and storage of relevant data and its analysis

In addition to the qualifications, the programme will enable candidates to progress in terms of level of responsibility, interpersonal skills, leadership, commercial awareness and commercial knowledge. This position offers candidates the opportunity to learn on the job, gain a recognised qualification and the opportunity to progress on to a degree course upon completion and ultimately lead to full membership of the relevant professional institutions.

We are looking for a long-term relationship with our apprentices and we have a long-term career structure in mind, whereby we see the apprentice developing into senior roles within our business as it grows.

  • Construction quantity surveying technician Level 4 (Higher national certificate) Apprenticeship Standard
  • HNC Construction Built Environment
  • Commercial Management qualification
  • Professional Membership with CIOB
  • A Levels (104 to 120 UCAS) (grade BCC to BBB)
  • BTEC Extended Diploma (grade DMM to DDM)
