Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and commission tailored software controls solutions with a specialist focus on Schneider Electric platforms such as Modicon PLCs, EcoStruxure, Unity Pro, and Wonderware/AVEVA SCADA and HMI.
- Deliver automation projects across infrastructure/manufacturing sectors, ensuring technical excellence in PLC programming, SCADA and HMI visualisation, and communications integration.
- Create, review, and maintain high-quality technical documentation such as functional design specifications, software architecture, control philosophies, user manuals, and electrical drawings.
- Support all phases of the automation controls project lifecycle, from initial client requirements and design to commissioning, FAT/SAT, and customer handover.
- Undertake site surveys and participate in commissioning and acceptance testing, ensuring robust system deployment and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Troubleshoot, optimise, and upgrade both new and legacy Schneider Electric-based control systems in live water utility and process environments.
- Build strong relationships with clients and stakeholders, acting as a technical advisor for Schneider Electric technology, and supporting industry best practice.
Essential Skills & Experience – Software Controls Engineer (Schneider Electric Specialist)
- Recognised engineering qualification (Degree, HNC, HND or equivalent) in Electrical, Controls, Automation, Software or a similar discipline.
- Proven hands-on experience designing and implementing industrial control systems using Schneider Electric PLCs (e.g. Modicon), SCADA, and HMI platforms.
- Strong understanding of software engineering for automation, including programming, simulation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to interpret client requirements and translate them into robust and reliable Schneider Electric automation solutions.
- Confident communicator who collaborates across technical and non-technical teams and with clients at all project stages.
- Full UK driving licence with flexibility to travel to client and project sites across Hampshire.
Desirable Skills & Experience – Enhance Your Automation Career
- Knowledge of digital transformation trends and standards in the water sector and wider industrial automation.
- Familiarity with industrial networking, cyber security, and integration of Schneider Electric automation with other platforms.
