Principal Protection & Control Engineer/Team Lead is a key senior role and provides technical leadership in the substation design and specifically on Protection and Control related work packages. The role takes a leading role in growing capability and turnover from a variety of projects in the substation design market for Kelvin Power and Vinci Energies Group. The candidate will possess excellent technical skill, leadership and communication skills, both written and oral, have strong commercial awareness, and be able to work in a fast‑paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical development in Protection & Control, substation design and engineering within Kelvin Power and Vinci Energies in the Transmission and Distribution market.
  • Act as checker/approver and technical governance manager for deliverables in Protection & Control, substation design and other related disciplines.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Protection & Control engineers and designers.
  • Provide technical supervision in engineering projects related to Kelvin Power and Vinci Energies markets.
  • Develop capability in cyber security, SCADA, Protection & Control, substation design (layout & electrical) and expertise in emerging markets such as HVDC to grow Kelvin Power’s business in the Transmission & Distribution market.
  • Lead client engagements, develop proposals, win work, deliver projects, and empower team members to assist in growing the business.
  • Provide technical expertise to other Vinci‑Energies groups (e.g., Omexom) in securing pipeline for the group and ensuring success for the whole group.
  • Embrace innovation and implement innovative solutions and technologies in substation design engineering.
  • Act as an industry expert in electrical substation design and present and showcase Kelvin Power and Vinci Energies’ technical expertise in conferences, workshops and industry working groups.

Requirements

  • Technical expertise in substation design and/or Transmission and Distribution Networks, Earthing Design, HV/MV Cable design and routing, EPC projects, design management, design assurance, specifications, construction and commissioning.
  • Experience managing a design team.
  • Ability to train and mentor junior members of the team.
  • Experience leading bids and proposals.
  • Client‑facing experience.
  • Passion for business development.
  • Excellent commercial awareness and business acumen.
  • Chartered or working towards a chartered status.
