Purpose Of The Position
Support the transportation, installation, and maintenance of overhead power line infrastructure for low voltage (LV), high voltage (HV), and extra-high voltage (EHV) networks up to 400 kV. The ideal candidate will have expertise in operating heavy-duty vehicles, MEWPs, HIABs, and other lifting equipment to facilitate efficient and safe power line construction.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Vehicle Operation & Logistics
- Drive and operate specialist vehicles, including HGVs, HIAB trucks, MEWPs (Mobile Elevated Work Platforms), and pole erection units (PEUs) to transport equipment and materials to work sites.
- Deliver and safely unload power line materials, including poles, cross-arms, transformers, and insulators.
- Perform daily vehicle inspections, maintenance checks, and defect reporting to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Secure loads using appropriate lifting and strapping techniques to prevent movement during transit.
- Overhead Line Installation & Support
- Assist in pole erection, conductor stringing, and equipment installation alongside overhead line teams.
- Operate winches and lifting gear to position poles and structures safely.
- Work with engineers and site teams to align and secure power line infrastructure.
- Support the safe handling and tensioning of conductors under controlled conditions.
- Governance
- Liaise with overhead line teams, site supervisors, and logistics coordinators to meet project deadlines.
- Maintain accurate delivery records, vehicle logs, and incident reports.
- Participate in daily briefings and toolbox talks to discuss safety and project progress.
Person Specification
- Experience in operating heavy-duty vehicles, MEWPs, HIABs, and other lifting equipment to facilitate efficient and safe power line construction.

Essential Qualifications and Experience
- LGV/HGV Category C or C+E Licence (Valid & Up to Date).
- CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) for HGV Drivers.
- HIAB/Crane Operator Certification.
- CSCS/EUSR (Energy & Utility Skills Register) Card.
- Knowledge of overhead line construction and utility operations.
- Understanding of LOLER & PUWER regulations for lifting operations.
Desirable Qualifications
- IPAF (3a/3b) MEWP Licence.
- National Grid Person.
- First Aid at Work Certification.
