VINCI Building have an exciting opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor to join the commercial team. Working as part of the wider regional team, you’ll provide commercial support, helping to ensure projects are procured, delivered within budget and to the highest quality, whilst exceeding the expectations of our client. As Quantity Surveyor, you will play a significant part ensuring that the financial position of the project is accurate as well as overseeing the contractual relationships between the various stakeholders.

Within this role you will:

  • Start Up of New Projects
    • Develop an understanding of Pre-Contract Management and Project commercial start up procedures.
  • Procurement
    • Procure materials and off-site services in an efficient manner as directed ensuring organisations are capable of carrying out the work in accordance with best practice, legal requirements and the VINCI Building procurement procedures and policies.
    • Assist with subcontract procurement in accordance with the procurement schedule timetable, in accordance with the VINCI Building procurement process and policy.
    • Assist in the preparation of work package content sheets.
    • Assist in the preparation of subcontract invitations to tender and evaluate tender returns (time, cost, quality and SHE).
    • Develop an understanding of the importance of the supply chain to deliver continuous improvement in terms of time, cost, quality and learning of all parties.
  • Estimating
    • Assisting with estimating projects (dealing with subcontract enquiries / tenders etc).
  • Applications for Payment and Invoicing
    • Assist in the timely preparation of valuations, submissions of invoices and receipt of payment.
    • Assist in the prompt preparation and settlement of final accounts.
  • Cost Control
    • Develop an understanding of principle unit costs of resources (labour, plant and materials).
    • Assist in the monitoring and management of subcontract costs.
    • Assist in the preparation of material wastage reconciliations.
    • Identify any unnecessary costs and inefficient activities.
    • Assist in the review plant and equipment schedules to ensure efficiency of use.
  • Accounting and Reporting
    • Contribute to the production of accurate and timely CVR reports and forecasts.
    • Develop an understanding of the need for accurate and robust reporting structures.
    • Develop an understanding of the need for an understanding of planning and programming to contribute to accurate progress reporting.
  • Risk and Opportunity Management
    • Develop an understanding and identify risks and opportunities in projects.
  • Change Control
    • Recognise and record “Change”.
    • Support early value engineering activities as part of the project team, ensuring all associated costs of change are included within the evaluation.
  • Programming and Project Controls
    • Develop a knowledge of programming and sequencing requirements.
  • Main Contract Administration
    • Develop an understanding of the contractual relationships between the various parties and stakeholders, including the VINCI Building contractual obligations in relation to those interested parties, with particular emphasis to Conditions Precedent.

Essential Criteria

  • Procurement experience
  • Experience in re-measurement
  • Financial / cost control
  • Appropriate CSCS card
  • Valid driving licence
  • A base understanding of contract law
  • Reading and accurately interpreting drawings and specifications.

Desirable Criteria

  • Construction related degree
  • NEC contract experience
