Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work as part of a squad, following instruction from the site Foreman, to carry out all works associated with the construction/refurbishment of overhead lines, including:
- Assembly and erection of steel towers and wood poles.
- Stringing, tensioning, sagging, jointing, clamping of all types of overhead conductors and making of stay wires.
- Installation of all types of insulators and overhead line equipment.
- Assist in supervising, training, and coaching new and inexperienced staff members, remaining alert to their actions and making them aware of hazards.
- Comply with NorPower’s policies, taking responsibility for your own actions to assist the company in meeting its aims and objectives.
- Participate in risk assessments and carry out assigned tasks in a safe manner in accordance with instructions, complying with safety & environmental rules, regulations, and codes of practice.
- Ensure the safe use and storage of all equipment and tools provided by the company in accordance with training/authorisation.
Key Competencies:
- Essential:
- Experience in all tasks associated with the construction/refurbishment of overhead lines – both wood pole and steel tower.
- Competent in working at height using permanent attachment techniques.
- Ability to follow both written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Sound awareness of the consequences of not following work practices/method statements.
- Desirable:
- Experience of carrying out risk assessments.
- Experience in the safe operation and use of plant/machinery where applicable.
- Experience in completing site records.
- Hold relevant Client authorisations.
- Hold an appropriate certificate in H&S training (e.g., IOSH Working Safely).
- First Aid Certificate.
- Training in: Manual handling, COSHH, Vehicle/machine banksman, Behavioural Safety, Rescue from structures, MEWP, Telehandler, Hagglund.
- Full driving license.
