VINCI Building has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join the team. The successful candidate will take ownership of commercial delivery across various elements of our projects from feasibility to completion. You will need strong contractual knowledge, ideally of NEC form of contracts, in order to maintain commercial control of work packages throughout the project lifecycle. Working as part of the wider London & South regional team, you'll help to ensure projects are procured efficiently, delivered within budget and to the highest quality, whilst exceeding the expectations of our client.
Scope of Role
- Start Up of New Projects
- Develop an understanding of Pre‑Contract Management and Project commercial start‑up procedures.
- Procurement
- Procure materials and off‑site services in an efficient manner.
- Assist with subcontract procurement following the procurement schedule and policy.
- Assist in preparing work package content sheets.
- Assist in preparing subcontract invitations to tender and evaluating tender returns (time, cost, quality, SHE).
- Develop an understanding of the importance of the supply chain to deliver continuous improvement.
- Applications for Payment and Invoicing
- Assist in the timely preparation of valuations, submissions of invoices and receipt of payment.
- Assist in the prompt preparation and settlement of final accounts.
- Cost Control
- Develop an understanding of principal unit costs of resources (labour, plant and materials).
- Assist in monitoring and managing subcontract costs.
- Assist in preparing material wastage reconciliations.
- Identify unnecessary costs and inefficient activities.
- Assist in reviewing plant and equipment schedules to ensure efficiency of use.
- Accounting and Reporting
- Contribute to the production of accurate and timely CVR reports and forecasts.
- Develop an understanding of the need for accurate and robust reporting structures.
- Develop an understanding of planning and programming to contribute to accurate progress reporting.
- Risk and Opportunity Management
- Develop an understanding and identify risks and opportunities in projects.
- Change Control
- Recognise and record change.
- Support early value engineering activities as part of the project team, ensuring all associated costs of change are included within the evaluation.
- Programming and Project Controls
- Develop knowledge of programming and sequencing requirements.
- Main Contract Administration
- Develop an understanding of the contractual relationships between the various parties and stakeholders, including VINCI Building contractual obligations in relation to those interested parties, with particular emphasis on Conditions Precedent.
Essential Criteria
- Sub contract & package procurement experience
- Experience working for a large UK Main Contractor
- Experience in re‑measurement
- Financial / cost control
- Appropriate CSCS card
- Valid driving licence
- A solid understanding of contract law, in particular NEC forms of contract
- Reading and accurately interpreting drawings and specifications
Desirable Criteria
- Construction‑related degree
- Experience in new build Healthcare projects
