Project Engineer – Manufacturing & Engineering
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Project Engineer to join a specialist engineering and manufacturing business based in Storrington, West Sussex.
The company designs and manufactures highly engineered electromagnetic equipment used across the science and healthcare industries. This is a hands‑on role suited to a Project Engineer who enjoys working across multiple areas of a business, solving technical problems and finding practical ways to improve manufacturing performance.
Working alongside production, design and quality teams, the Project Engineer will play an important role in taking projects from planning through to manufacture, while helping to improve processes, efficiency and product quality.
The Opportunity
As Project Engineer, you will act as a key link between engineering and manufacturing. You will be responsible for coordinating a range of engineering activities, resolving production issues and ensuring projects remain on track.
The role offers considerable variety, with involvement in project documentation, manufacturing processes, production planning, cost control, continuous improvement and technical problem‑solving.
Key Duties
The Project Engineer will be responsible for:
- Coordinating engineering activities across a variety of manufacturing projects.
- Working with colleagues and customers to investigate and resolve technical or production‑related issues.
- Creating and maintaining project plans, engineering records, change documentation and other project information.
- Supporting investigations into manufacturing issues, including non‑conformances and process‑related problems.
- Reviewing production processes and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, quality and reliability.
- Working alongside the design function to ensure new and existing products can be manufactured effectively.
- Assisting with the development of manufacturing processes, production layouts and workflow improvements.
- Providing engineering assistance and practical technical support to the production team.
- Monitoring project expenditure, manufacturing hours and material usage to help establish accurate project costs.
- Supporting production scheduling and forward planning when required.
- Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across the manufacturing operation.
- Helping maintain appropriate health and safety procedures and ensuring engineering activities are carried out safely.
- Communicating project progress, potential issues and manufacturing performance to relevant stakeholders.
What We're Looking For
We are seeking a Project Engineer with a practical engineering background and experience within a manufacturing environment.
You should have:
- An Engineering Degree, HNC or HND, together with relevant industry experience.
- A minimum of 2 years' experience in project engineering, manufacturing engineering or a similar position.
- The ability to understand technical problems and develop practical solutions.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Confidence working with teams across engineering, production, design and quality.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to manage individual projects or work packages from initial planning through to completion.
- Experience coordinating workloads and schedules, including supporting smaller teams where necessary.
- Competence using Microsoft Office.
- A proactive approach to identifying improvements rather than simply reacting to problems.
