A specialist engineering and manufacturing business based in Pulborough is looking for a Production Engineer to join its expanding engineering function.

The business develops and manufactures high-precision electromagnetic equipment for applications within the science and healthcare sectors. This role would suit a Production Engineer who enjoys getting involved on the shop floor, solving problems and working closely with operators to improve the way products are manufactured.

The Role

As a Production Engineer, you will provide hands-on engineering support across a number of production areas. You will investigate manufacturing issues, improve processes, support operators and help introduce new products and builds into production.

This is a varied position combining technical troubleshooting, process improvement, documentation, equipment optimisation and operator support.

You will work as part of a collaborative engineering team, developing practical solutions to improve productivity, minimise disruption and make manufacturing processes more effective.

Key Responsibilities

As the Production Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing day-to-day engineering assistance across multiple production areas.
  • Working directly with production operators to understand issues and develop effective solutions.
  • Delivering practical training and guidance to operators, ensuring processes and procedures are clearly understood.
  • Becoming familiar with products and manufacturing methods by supporting builds and production activities.
  • Investigating equipment problems, production interruptions and recurring process issues.
  • Identifying the root causes of manufacturing problems and implementing improvements.
  • Creating, updating and simplifying work instructions, technical documentation and production handover information.
  • Reviewing existing processes and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, reliability and ease of manufacture.
  • Improving tooling, equipment and production facilities to support better manufacturing performance.
  • Assisting with the introduction of new products and transferring development or project builds into repeatable production processes.
  • Supporting the development of robust manufacturing methods that can be adopted across production.
  • Working closely with engineering and production colleagues to reduce downtime, improve output and maintain quality standards.

About You

We are looking for a Production Engineer who is comfortable working in a hands-on manufacturing environment and enjoys tackling practical engineering challenges.

You should have:

  • Previous experience in a production, manufacturing or process engineering position.
  • A relevant engineering qualification or equivalent practical engineering experience.
  • Strong technical problem-solving abilities.
  • A hands-on approach and willingness to spend time working directly within production.
  • The ability to communicate technical information clearly to operators and colleagues.
  • Experience creating or improving technical documentation and work instructions.
  • A methodical approach to investigating faults and identifying underlying causes.
