The Role
We are recruiting a Senior Mechanical Project Engineer to oversee the mechanical services package on a major MOD defence project based in Odiham, Hook. This is a key delivery role within a live construction environment, reporting directly to the Senior Mechanical Project Manager.
You will take responsibility for managing mechanical works from construction phase through to commissioning and handover, ensuring delivery is safe, compliant, on programme, and to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Take full ownership of the mechanical services package from installation through to final handover
- Provide strong operational and site leadership across the mechanical scope
- Manage and coordinate mechanical subcontractors, including specialist packages
- Oversee mechanical supervisors and site management teams
- Liaise closely with electrical engineers, project managers, and wider M&E teams to ensure coordinated delivery
- Manage interfaces with existing live client facilities, ensuring minimal disruption and strict compliance with site protocols
- Lead mechanical procurement activities, including material scheduling, supplier liaison, and stock control
- Prepare, review, and manage RAMS, permits, and construction documentation
- Ensure all works comply with health & safety, quality, and programme requirements
- Contribute to progress reporting, coordination meetings, and issue resolution

The Ideal Candidate
- Minimum 5+ years’ experience within the mechanical building services industry
- Proven background in mechanical project delivery, construction, or site management
- Previous experience working on commercial, defence, or complex M&E projects
- Strong understanding of mechanical installation, commissioning, and handover processes
- Holds relevant site qualifications: JIB / Skill Card, SSSTS or SMSTS
- Able to work effectively under pressure and manage competing priorities
- Excellent communication and coordination skills
- Able to commute to Odiham, Hook on a daily basis
