I’m working with a well-established electrical contractor who specialise in delivering high-quality electrical services across the residential and commercial sectors. Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of secured work, they are looking to appoint a Senior Electrical Estimator / Estimating Manager to take ownership of their estimating function and lead the department forward.
This is a key hire for the business, offering the opportunity to step into a senior position with minimal director involvement, where you will be trusted to “grab the role” and run with it. The company is also open to candidates who can introduce improved systems and processes within estimating.
About the Company
Orange Electrical Contractors Ltd are a growing and ambitious electrical contractor with a strong reputation for delivery within the residential-led development sector. They operate across a range of schemes including student accommodation, build-to-rent, and mixed-use developments, alongside selected commercial projects. The business currently operates with a small, close-knit team of around 11 office staff and is preparing to move into a new, company-owned office in Bromsgrove within the next 3 months. This move reflects their continued growth and long-term investment in the business. They are currently using Ensign estimating software but are open to change depending on the successful candidate’s experience.
The Role
You will be responsible for leading and managing the electrical estimating function, taking full ownership of tenders from enquiry through to submission. You will work closely with the directors but will be expected to operate with a high level of autonomy. You will also play a key role in shaping estimating processes, mentoring the current estimator, and helping drive the commercial success of the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the electrical estimating function and take ownership of all tenders
- Prepare accurate and competitive electrical tenders from first principles
- Review drawings, specifications, and client documentation
- Manage the full tender process from enquiry through to submission
- Liaise with clients, suppliers, and internal teams to develop winning bids
- Provide commercial input, value engineering, and cost-saving solutions
- Support and mentor the existing estimator within the business
- Help develop and improve estimating processes and systems
- Contribute to bid strategy and business development discussions
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Senior Electrical Estimator or Estimating Manager
- Strong background in residential-led projects (PBSA, student accommodation, build-to-rent)
- Commercial awareness and ability to price work accurately and competitively
- Experience working on commercial building services projects also beneficial
- Confident managing full tender processes independently
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work in a small team environment with autonomy
- Software experience flexible (Ensign or similar advantageous but not essential)
