About the role
We are seeking a highly motivated and commercially minded Senior Commercial Finance Analyst to join our dynamic UK Grocery team. This role is working closely with the Grocery Controller, Sales team, and wider business to drive performance through robust financial analysis, insightful reporting, and strategic recommendations.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Support Senior National Account Managers (SNAMs) and National Account Managers (NAMs) by providing timely and insightful financial analysis to inform both short- and long-term business decisions, leveraging both internal and external data.
Produce and review monthly financial performance analysis and commentary for assigned customers within the UK Grocery channel.
Assist in reviewing and financially challenging the annual Joint Business Planning (JBP) submissions and customer plans alongside the Sales teams.
Support the Finance Manager & Finance Business Partners in enhancing JBP reporting on a monthly basis and in delivering forecasts and budgets for UKIR customers.
Lead monthly P&L review meetings with Commercial team members, ensuring they understand their financial performance and key drivers.
Actively contribute to monthly channel team meetings from a finance perspective, highlighting performance insights and trends.
Provide ad-hoc decision support for the Sales team, including analysis of trading agreements, sales proposals, and evaluation of profit and cash impacts.
Assist in the preparation and analysis of what-if scenarios and risk assessments to evaluate commercial opportunities, pricing, and promotional strategies.
Contribute to the Commercial Checkpoint cycle to help improve performance and drive delivery of strategic initiatives.
Co-ordinate and track risks and opportunities related to customer financial performance.
Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams on projects, including post-completion evaluations and financial reviews.
Liaise with key internal stakeholders such as Demand Planning, Operations Finance, and Pricing & Promo Analysts to ensure alignment and support for decision-making.
Partner with PPA (Pricing & Promo Analysts) to enhance promotional effectiveness insights, and challenge Sales leads to drive value through smarter promotional investment.
Ensure accurate maintenance of pricing, promotions, and accrual data in Anaplan in collaboration with Account Managers and Analysts.
What Youll Bring:
Experience – Minimum of 2 years post qualification experience in a finance role ideally in FMCG, retail or commercial finance environment.
Analytical Skills – Strong ability to analyse data using Excel, Anaplan, ReportsNow, Cognos & JDE.
Technical Aptitude – Solid understanding of financial principles, including margin analysis, forecasting, budgeting and accruals. Comfortable working with large data sets and can adapt to new processes/tools quickly.
Communication Skills – Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with senior management and key stakeholders. Able to convey financial information clearly and concisely to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
Attention to detail – High level of accuracy and is able to identify discrepancies and inconsistencies and proactively work to resolve them.
Initiative – Has a proactive mindset and is always looking to improve process. Takes ownership and can work independently.
Teamwork – Can take a collaborative approach and contribute positively to the Commercial Finance Team offering feedback and supporting peers.
Some business travel may be required from time to time
Occasional out of hours work may be required
