Reporting to the Head of HSEQ West, the Senior HSEQ Manager is responsible for leading the Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) agenda across the UK and South African (SA) business, ensuring the highest standards of product quality, food safety, workplace safety, environmental performance, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence.

The role is accountable for protecting the organisation's reputation and maintaining stakeholder confidence through robust HSEQ governance, certification management, audit excellence, risk management, compliance assurance, and effective issue resolution.

The position partners closely with operational, commercial, supply chain, and corporate leaders to drive continuous improvement and embed a proactive culture of safety, quality, and compliance.

  • Your Key Accountabilities
  • Lead the execution of HSEQ strategies, objectives, and improvement programmes in alignment with regional and global priorities.
  • Provide HSEQ leadership and governance across manufacturing, warehousing, logistics, and third-party operations.
  • Drive a culture of accountability, risk management, compliance, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead and develop the UK and South Africa HSEQ team, ensuring strong capability, engagement, and performance.
  • Partner with operational and functional leaders to strengthen HSEQ ownership, leadership capability, and accountability.
  • Champion a culture of safety, quality, compliance, and continuous improvement across the organisation.
  • Food Safety, Quality & Compliance
  • Maintain and continuously improve Quality, Food Safety, Health & Safety, and Environmental Management Systems.
  • Ensure compliance with customer, regulatory, certification, and company standards.
  • Lead product withdrawal, recall, crisis management, incident response activities, and CAPA programmes where required.
  • Lead implementation and continuous improvement of health, safety, and environmental programmes across the UK.
  • Drive proactive risk identification, hazard management, and incident prevention initiatives.
  • Support delivery of sustainability objectives, environmental improvement initiatives, and HSEQ training and competency development programmes.

  • Management Systems & Certification
  • Act as the business owner for BRCGS Food Safety certification and other applicable management system certifications.
  • Maintain compliance with BRCGS, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and other applicable standards.
  • Lead certification, surveillance, recertification, customer, regulatory, and retailer audit programmes.
  • Continuous Improvement & Performance Management
  • Establish and monitor HSEQ performance metrics, targets, and reporting frameworks.
  • Analyse trends and identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, compliance, and operational performance.
  • Lead improvement initiatives that strengthen compliance, operational effectiveness, and business performance, including digitalisation, standardisation, and simplification of HSEQ systems and processes.
  • Your Knowledge and Skills
  • Degree qualification in Food Science, Quality, Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 7-10 years' experience in HSEQ, Quality, Food Safety, Technical, or HSE leadership roles within FMCG, food, beverage, manufacturing, or similarly regulated industries.
  • Proven experience managing BRCGS-certified manufacturing facilities and quality systems.
  • Extensive experience leading customer, retailer, certification, regulatory, and internal audits.
  • Strong knowledge of HACCP principles, risk management frameworks, and food safety systems.
  • Strong understanding of UK food safety, health and safety, and environmental legislation.
  • Demonstrated experience leading incident investigations, CAPA programmes, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Proven experience leading and developing high-performing technical or HSEQ teams.
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication, influencing, and problem-solving skills.
  • It is desirable that the ideal candidate for this role would be Spanish-speaking to a professional level.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate, Diploma, or equivalent.
  • Experience implementing and maintaining ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 management systems.
  • Experience managing outsourced manufacturing and co-packer relationships.
  • Experience within wine, beverage, food manufacturing, or FMCG industries.
  • Membership of IOSH, IEMA, CQI, IFST, or equivalent professional body.
