About Village
Village is building the world’s first agentic AI assistant for parents not just to remind of their invisible admin tasks (think booking appointments, managing household logistics, coordinating childcare etc), but to use agentic AI to get the tasks done on their behalf. Our mission is to reduce the invisible mental load of parenting: the endless admin around school events, birthday parties, childcare, and logistics. Our AI automates routine parenting tasks so families can focus on what really matters. We’re early-stage, fast-moving, and backed by leading investors — and we’re starting with our first user-facing experience: the Birthday Party Planner.
Tasks
We’re looking for a Backend Engineer Trainee to join us for a 2-week paid project, with the potential to extend into a longer-term or full-time role. You’ll work closely with the founder and product team to:
- Build and test key backend systems
- Integrate with tools like Google Calendar and Amazon
- Coordinate multi-step task flows for reminders, RSVPs, and gifting
- Lay the foundation for agent-powered automation
This is an ideal opportunity for someone excited about AI, startups, and building something real — fast.
What You’ll Work On
In your first two weeks, you’ll help:
- Detect and store birthday event info from calendar or manual input
- Recommend and manage gift options based on child profile and delivery window
- Track task states (e.g., RSVP sent, gift purchased, reminder scheduled)
- Trigger notifications for key events (e.g., day-of party prep)
Requirements
What We’re Looking For:
We’re looking for an engineer with the following experience:
- Data Integration & API Architecture - Build robust integrations with calendar APIs (Google, Outlook), email parsing, e-commerce platforms (Amazon, Target), messaging services, and weather/location APIs. Need experience with RESTful APIs, webhooks, and managing multiple third-party service integrations.
- AI/ML Integration & Natural Language Processing - Implement intelligent text parsing to extract party details from emails/calendars, build a gift recommendation engine considering age/budget/delivery factors, and integrate LLM APIs for conversational features like RSVP drafting and thank-you message generation.
- Mobile-First Frontend with Smart Notifications - Develop cross-platform mobile app (React Native/Flutter) with push notification system, intuitive UI for busy parents, offline capability for core features, and real-time updates for gift shipments and RSVP status changes.
About You
- You’re excited to work on a mission-driven product
- You’re curious about agentic AI and automation
- You enjoy working independently with support when needed
- You’re available to start this week
Benefits
We’ll provide:
- Clear product flows and spec guidance
- Direct mentorship and fast feedback
- Opportunity of a permanent role after two weeks
- Access to a huge network of start ups and job opportunities through our network
- Central London office
How to Apply
Include the following in your application:
- A few lines on why this role interests you
- A link to something you’ve built (GitHub, portfolio, or CV)
- Confirmation that you’re available to start this week
We’d love to hear from you.
