Reporting to the Senior Director R&D, the Product Compliance Manager will be the single regulatory subject matter expert for Videojet's global hardware portfolio — a high-visibility role where your name and your judgment carry real weight across the business. You'll build and own our compliance roadmap from the ground up, working directly alongside engineering and product teams rather than issuing guidance from the sidelines, and engaging certification bodies like UL and TÜV as a trusted negotiating partner rather than just a checkbox in the process. This is a role people should be proud to hold: it's yours to shape, and the impact is felt everywhere Videojet products ship. You'll be located in Nottingham or Huntingdon, UK (Hybrid), with occasional travel between sites and to engage regulatory/certification bodies.
In this role, a typical day will look like:
- Monitoring the global regulatory landscape to flag new requirements and emerging compliance risks before they become urgent.
- Turning ambiguous or evolving regulatory directives into clear, confident guidance that Product Management, R&D, and cross-functional leaders can actually act on.
- Building and proactively managing a multi-year compliance roadmap for both new and legacy hardware products.
- Working hands-on alongside engineering and product teams — not just setting direction, but staying in the trenches with them through to execution.
- Engaging directly with certification and regulatory bodies (UL, TÜV, and others), negotiating approval strategies, testing scope, timelines, and cost.
- Influencing senior cross-functional leaders in a matrix organization to prioritize compliance work and keep it moving.
The essential requirements of the job include:
- 7+ years of experience in Product Compliance, Regulatory Affairs, or a closely related function within a hardware or electromechanical product environment, with the technical or engineering fluency — degree, vocational qualification, or equivalent hands-on experience — to hold in-depth product design conversations with engineering teams.
- Practical, hands-on knowledge of major regulatory frameworks applicable to hardware products — EU (e.g., CE Marking, Machinery Directive, EMC Directive, Low Voltage Directive, REACH, RoHS) or North American (e.g., UL, FCC) — with the ability to translate that expertise across regions.
- Demonstrated, individually-owned experience negotiating and managing product approval strategies, timelines, and costs directly with certification bodies (e.g., UL, TÜV, or equivalent).
- Proven track record interpreting ambiguous or evolving regulatory requirements into clear, actionable guidance — and driving that guidance through to execution, not just advising on it.
- Fluent English, written and spoken.
