The predicted salary is between 60000 - 75000 £ per year.

This is a pivotal leadership role, responsible for ensuring full SHE compliance, including COMAH and environmental permitting, while shaping the site’s long‑term safety strategy. You’ll act as the site’s SHE expert and leader, influencing at all levels—from shop floor to senior leadership—and acting as the key point of contact with external regulators.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Maintain the site’s licence to operate, ensuring compliance with COMAH, environmental permits and SHE legislation.
  • Act as the main point of contact for external regulators and auditors (e.g. HSE and EA).
  • Lead and develop the site SHE team, including coaching and capability development.
  • Drive continuous improvement across process safety, occupational safety, health & well‑being, and environmental performance.
  • Manage and deliver the SHE Improvement Plan and compliance activities.
  • Lead incident investigations, ensuring robust root‑cause analysis and sharing lessons learned.
  • Oversee risk assessments, audits and emergency planning.
  • Influence and coach leaders to embed a strong safety culture and accountability.
  • Support wider group SHE strategy and projects.

What we’re looking for:

  • We’re looking for a confident and credible SHE leader who can operate effectively in a high‑hazard, regulated environment, combining technical expertise with strong leadership and influencing skills.
  • Significant experience in SHE leadership within high‑hazard or COMAH‑regulated environments.
  • Strong knowledge of SHE legislation, compliance and regulatory engagement.
  • Proven experience leading SHE improvement programmes and assurance activities.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, influencing and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and investigative capability, including root‑cause analysis.
  • Experience managing teams and driving cultural change.

Essential qualifications:

  • Postgraduate qualification in Occupational Safety & Health Management.
  • Environmental management qualification (e.g. IEMA or equivalent).
  • Upper‑tier COMAH experience.
  • Extensive SHE management experience.

Desirable qualifications:

  • Degree in engineering or science.
  • Chartered or professional membership (e.g. CMIOSH, PIEMA).
