As a Mechanical Technician you will spend your first year at a specialist training facility with our training provider Westinghouse Springfields Fuels. You will learn basic engineering and craft skills, laying a strong foundation to progress. In year two you will join us on site and work with the maintenance team, gaining hands-on experience in your technical field.

Here are a few examples of what our Mechanical Technicians do:

  • Have a proactive approach to safety, ensuring compliance with all site rules and procedures; escalate safety concerns you cannot resolve.
  • Carry out scheduled preventative maintenance to reduce potential unplanned breakdowns of equipment.
  • Carry out corrective maintenance on equipment when it fails, minimising production impact where possible.
  • Plan and prepare for preventative or corrective tasks to ensure safety and quality standards are met.
  • Support root cause analysis of unplanned outages or fault diagnosis and implement actions to prevent recurrence where practical.

This Apprenticeship offers an industry-recognised Level 3 Engineering Manufacturing Technician qualification, with many apprentices progressing to additional study. You will also complete qualifications up to Level 4. The programme duration is 48 months, with a join-on date for the 2026 Apprenticeship Intake in September.

To be eligible, you should have achieved or be on course for 5 GCSEs including English and Maths, plus a science at Grade C/4 or above. While grades matter, we are also looking for the following skills and qualities:

We pay our apprentices a competitive wage at Victrex. While you are in training, you will be rewarded as your confidence and skills grow. Salary increases on your journey to becoming a skilled tradesperson, and you will be rewarded accordingly once you reach that level.

Apart from a strong base salary, you will be enrolled in our company bonus scheme. If eligible, you will be invited to join our Company Pension Scheme with 5% employee contributions attracting 12% employer contributions.

We offer private medical insurance and provide 29 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, with the option to purchase up to 2 additional weeks of leave.
