Join Victoria Aboriginal Legal Service (VALS) and play a hands‑on role improving the quality and day‑to‑day use of service data across our teams. You'll coach, train and support staff using Actionstep, help managers build confidence in reporting, and contribute to clear, practical data visualisations that inform decisions, advocacy and continuous improvement.
Location: Preston, VIC
Employment type: 0.8 Part‑time, 12‑month fixed‑term contract (strong potential for ongoing)
Days of Work: Monday - Thursday
Salary: $90,000 pro‑rata + super + salary packaging

About the role:
- Design and deliver practical training, refreshers and guidance materials to support accurate and complete data entry in Actionstep (manuals, short videos, updates to teams).
- Provide responsive, day‑to‑day support to staff and teams on service‑related data entry and system use.
- Identify and coach "Actionstep champions" to build capability within teams.
- Support managers with data assurance: monitoring accuracy and completeness, addressing gaps and cleaning data.
- Assist managers to generate reports for service monitoring, resourcing insights, trend identification, and funder compliance reporting.
- Support the Data Analyst & Manager with clear data visualisations and facilitation of "sense‑making" sessions with teams.
- Supervise the Data Support Specialist and contribute to broader unit priorities as directed (including some travel as required).
About you:
- Significant experience working with data management systems/applications (experience with client information systems is highly regarded).
- Strong Excel capability and confidence working with data quality, gaps and exceptions.
- Experience training and supporting frontline staff to collect and enter service data accurately (not‑for‑profit experience is beneficial).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate "data" into practical guidance for non‑technical users.
- High attention to detail and a proactive, solutions‑focused approach.
- Experience with data visualisation tools/techniques (e.g., dashboards, charts, simple storytelling with data).
- Cultural awareness and a respectful approach to working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples (and an understanding of the issues impacting access to legal and related supports is desirable).
Qualifications & mandatory requirements:
- Qualification in data assurance, database management or equivalent.
- Current Employee Working with Children Check.
- Valid Victorian Driver's Licence.
- National Criminal History Check.
- Evidence of working rights in Australia.
