An exciting opportunity for a Product Designer to join the Digital Media team at the V&A.
The Digital Media team’s mission is to bring the V&A to life online and in our buildings. Our aim is to deliver a world‑class digital experience that reflects the depth and breadth of the V&A’s collections and engages people with art, design, and creativity. The team leads the design and development of a suite of visitor‑facing digital products and services, and creates compelling digital content that builds awareness, drives acquisition, and deepens engagement with V&A’s target audiences.
As part of the Digital Media team, Product Design ensures that every feature meets our brand standards, reflects our commitment to high quality design, and delivers an exceptional experience for our users.
What will you be doing?
Design Delivery
- Support the Digital Product Design Lead in delivering high-quality digital products and features, and iterating on existing ones
- Create wireframes to articulate user flows and interactions for stakeholder review
- Develop interactive prototypes for usability testing and to demonstrate user interactions
- Document design decisions and provide clear specifications so that developers and stakeholders have clarity on design rationale and implementation details
- Ensure all design outputs align with relevant V&A brand guidelines.
- Maintain, refine, and develop design system components to ensure consistency and scalability
- Stay informed about design trends and emerging technologies to inspire innovation
User Research & Testing
- Support in-depth planning, running and analysis of user research and usability tests to inform the design and development of new products and features
- Collaborate on user journey mapping and information architecture during discovery phases
- Work closely with Product, Tech, and Content teams to ensure designs are implementable and aligned with user needs (e.g., collaborating on API constraints for dynamic content)
- Advocate for accessibility (e.g., ensuring WCAG compliance) and inclusive design throughout the product lifecycle
- Continue a close partnership with Tech and Product teams and contribute to continuous improvement of design processes including improving workflows, tools, and practices within the design team
Who are we looking for?
- Expertise in creating intuitive, visually refined user interfaces that align with brand guidelines and deliver a seamless user experience.
- Proficiency with industry‑standard design tools and workflows (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite) and familiarity with prototyping tools for interactive design.
- Ability to apply rigorous discovery and design processes to both new and existing products, ensuring decisions are evidence‑based and user‑centred.
- Skilled at translating user research into actionable design solutions, including mapping user journeys and designing intuitive flows.
- Competence in developing and iterating prototypes to validate usability and incorporate stakeholder feedback effectively.
- Strong knowledge of accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) and ability to embed inclusive design principles throughout the design process.
- Proficient in preparing detailed design specifications and assets for developers, ensuring accurate implementation and maintaining design integrity.
- Excellent communication skills to clearly articulate design rationale and maintain alignment with stakeholders and cross‑functional teams.
- Ability to deliver high‑quality, detail‑oriented designs, considering every interaction and touchpoint for a polished user experience.
- Exceptional attention to detail in visual design, interaction patterns, and documentation.
