The Assistant Group Accountant supports the Financial Reporting Manager in ensuring that the Museum’s financial records are accurate and complete; and that timely and reliable information is provided to colleagues who need it. We are looking for a proactive and detailed orientated person who will support our team to deliver the effective operation of finance systems, processes, and controls across the V&A.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare key monthly income journals, including deferred income adjustments.
  • Produce balance sheet reconciliations, with a focus on complex areas such as admissions, retail, and inter company control accounts.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Income Reconciliation Officer to investigate and resolve discrepancies.
  • Prepare admission Gift Aid reports for submission to HMRC.
  • Prepare statutory accounts for V&A Enterprises Limited, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, and act as the primary day-to-day contact for external audit teams.
  • Support the Financial Accountant in preparing the quarterly Group VAT return and the annual Section 33A return.
  • Assist with external reporting requirements, including DCMS Counterparty and Related Party returns, ONS reporting, and transparency spend data submissions.
  • Monitor staff debtor accounts (e.g. season tickets, childcare, cycle schemes) and ensure relevant updates are communicated to colleagues in People and Finance.
  • Review month-end journals prepared by others and take responsibility for posting entries, ensuring appropriate supporting documentation is maintained.
  • Review the weekly supplier payment run in line with finance department procedures.
  • Maintain and update relevant intranet pages relating to Financial Reporting & Control.

Who are we looking for?

  • Part qualified accountant with strong financial reporting and technical accounting skills.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills; with excellent attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills, with ability to present financial information clearly.
  • Experience of using a finance system (preferably Microsoft Business Central), MS Office, Power BI and other relevant IT systems to an intermediate level.
  • Knowledge of VAT and Gift Aid processes, including preparation and compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Exposure to audit processes and working with external auditors.
  • Respects others’ expertise, time, perspectives and contribution.
  • Takes responsibility for delivering on actions, achieving high standards and learning from mistakes.
