Company and Role of Senior Production Manager

Vickerstock are working exclusively with an established and successful engineering and manufacturing business in the recruitment of a Senior Production Manager for their County Tyrone operation. This is a significant manufacturing leadership position with responsibility for leading a substantial production function, developing its people and driving improvements across safety, quality, delivery, productivity and cost.

We are particularly interested in speaking with experienced Senior Production Managers, Operations Managers and Manufacturing Managers who have progressed through manufacturing and can demonstrate a strong track record of leading people, improving production performance and implementing practical operational improvements. This is not simply a day-to-day production management position. You will have the opportunity to influence how the operation develops, working with the wider management team to improve manufacturing processes, develop leadership capability and ensure the operation is positioned to support continued business growth.

Key Responsibilities for this Senior Production Manager position:

  • Take responsibility for the performance of a substantial manufacturing operation
  • Lead, develop and support Supervisors and wider production teams
  • Drive improvements across safety, quality, delivery, productivity and cost
  • Ensure production requirements are achieved efficiently and in line with business priorities
  • Develop production capability, capacity and workforce planning in line with changing demand
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve manufacturing efficiency and operational performance
  • Improve production flow and remove operational constraints across the manufacturing process
  • Develop clear performance measures and management processes across production
  • Champion Continuous Improvement and encourage greater ownership and accountability throughout production teams
  • Work closely with Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, Health & Safety and other departments to resolve operational issues
  • Monitor labour performance, production costs and departmental budgets
  • Develop the capability of the manufacturing leadership team and support succession planning
  • Contribute to wider operational strategy and future manufacturing improvement projects

Essential Criteria for this Senior Production Manager position:

  • Significant Production Management, Manufacturing Management or Operations Management experience within an engineering or manufacturing environment
  • Proven experience leading sizeable production teams through Managers, Supervisors or Team Leaders
  • Strong track record of improving manufacturing performance, productivity and efficiency
  • Good understanding of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement principles
  • Experience managing production planning, labour, capacity and operational performance
  • Strong people leadership skills with experience developing manufacturing teams and frontline management
  • Good commercial awareness with an understanding of manufacturing costs and budgets
  • Strong Health & Safety awareness within a production environment
  • Experience within heavy engineering, machinery, fabrication, automotive, aerospace, materials handling or another complex manufacturing environment would be particularly relevant, although we are open to strong manufacturing leaders from other sectors.
