Vickerstock are delighted to be working in partnership with a specialist consultancy who, due to continued growth in their bridge engineering and heavy civils portfolio, are seeking to appoint Design Engineers at Graduate, Engineer & Senior level for their Belfast operation. This is an excellent opportunity to join a technically strong consultancy delivering complex infrastructure and bridge projects, with a role that combines permanent works design and temporary works engineering.

Your new role as Bridge Engineer:

  • As a Design Engineer, you will play a key role in the delivery of safety-critical engineering solutions across a range of complex construction and infrastructure schemes.
  • You will work as part of a collaborative design team, supporting projects from concept through to construction.
  • Depending on your level and experience, responsibilities will include:
    • Designing permanent works for bridge and heavy civils projects.
    • Developing temporary works solutions including formwork, falsework, propping, access and construction sequencing.
    • Producing high-quality design calculations, drawings and technical reports.
    • Applying relevant standards, including BS 5975, with mentoring and technical support provided.
    • Undertaking site visits and surveys to ensure designs are practical and buildable.
    • Providing technical support to construction teams during project delivery.
    • Managing multiple design packages while maintaining high safety and quality standards.
    • Supporting and mentoring junior engineers.

What you'll need to succeed:

  • A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Experience in temporary works design or a strong background in bridge engineering or heavy civil infrastructure.
  • Good understanding of engineering drawings, load paths and design principles.
  • Strong communication skills and confidence engaging with project stakeholders.
  • A proactive, safety-focused approach to engineering design.
  • Chartered status or progress toward ICE or IStructE (advantageous but not essential).
  • Experience gained in either a consultancy or contractor-design environment.
