Principal Engineer / Technical Director | Water & Wastewater | Belfast Vickerstock are working in partnership with an established multidisciplinary consultancy to recruit a Principal Engineer through to Technical Director level to join their Belfast team. This is a senior appointment supporting the development and delivery of a major new processing facility within the water and wastewater sector. The consultancy has been appointed as Technical Lead and Project Manager on the programme, which represents one of the most significant capital projects currently being developed in the sector. For the successful Engineer, this provides an opportunity to take a leading technical role on a large and complex infrastructure project, working from the development and design stages through the wider project lifecycle. The preference is for a Civil Engineer with significant water and wastewater experience, although experienced Mechanical Engineers with the appropriate sector and project background will also be considered. The level of appointment is deliberately flexible. Applications are welcomed from experienced Principal Engineers through to established Technical Directors, with the scope and responsibilities shaped accordingly. Why this opportunity? The exact remit will reflect your experience and level of appointment, but responsibilities will include: Providing technical leadership across a major water and wastewater capital project Leading and coordinating multidisciplinary engineering activities Developing, reviewing and challenging engineering options and technical solutions Coordinating Civil, Mechanical, Process and other specialist engineering inputs Providing technical oversight of designs, specifications, reports and project documentation Managing technical interfaces across the wider project team Working closely with the client, Project Managers, specialist consultants and other stakeholders Supporting the development of practical, buildable and commercially considered engineering solutions Identifying and managing technical risks throughout the project lifecycle Providing technical assurance and reviewing engineering outputs Supporting programme, procurement and project delivery requirements Providing guidance and technical leadership to Engineers within the wider team At Technical Director level, taking a broader role in client leadership, technical governance and the continued development of the consultancy's water sector capability What you will need to succeed Degree qualified in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or another relevant engineering discipline Significant experience within the water and wastewater sector Strong technical understanding of major water or wastewater treatment and infrastructure projects Experience delivering complex multidisciplinary capital projects Ability to provide technical leadership and coordinate multiple engineering disciplines Strong client-facing, communication and stakeholder management skills Experience operating within a consultancy, client or major contractor environment Ability to challenge, review and provide technical assurance across engineering solutions Chartered Engineer status would be strongly preferred for appointments at this level Previous experience of major treatment or processing facilities would be particularly advantageous What's in it for you?
