Vickerstock are pleased to be working with a specialist MEICA contractor operating within the water sector. They are looking to appoint an Electrical Design Engineer to join their team in Newry. This is a newly created role to supplement their existing skillsets in Mechanical & Process Engineering design. This is an opportunity for an engineer with water industry experience to take on a key technical position.
Your new role as Electrical Design Engineer:
As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will deliver electrical design solutions for water and wastewater infrastructure projects across the island of Ireland, working closely with multi-disciplinary project teams. Your work will span the design of low-voltage systems, PLC control integration and cabling infrastructure for pumping stations, treatment works and associated electrical installations.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Designing and developing electrical systems for water and wastewater projects, with a focus on low voltage distribution, control panels, PLC integration and cabling design.
- Producing detailed electrical schematics, cable schedules, panel layouts and design documentation.
- Coordinating with civil, mechanical and instrumentation teams to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems.
- Supporting project delivery from concept through detailed design and into construction/commissioning support.
- Preparing technical reports, risk assessments and specifications compliant with industry standards and water sector requirements.
- Liaising with clients, contractors, statutory bodies and suppliers to resolve technical issues and optimise designs.
- Providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and technicians.
- Assisting with design reviews, testing procedures, and quality assurance throughout project lifecycles.
What you'll need to succeed as an Electrical Design Engineer:
To be considered for this role, you should demonstrate:
- A degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or similar discipline.
- Proven experience in electrical design engineering, ideally within the water sector or infrastructure environment.
- Strong experience in low voltage electrical design, cabling design and PLC system integration.
- Competence with electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD, E-Plan, or equivalent).
- Familiarity with water/wastewater industry standards, regulations and best practices.
- Excellent communication skills with strong attention to detail and project organisation.
- Experience with high voltage systems is an advantage, though not essential.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
