The company is a genuine home-grown Northern Ireland success story, having developed and manufactured its products locally while building a strong presence across the UK, Ireland and wider international markets. This is an excellent opportunity for a practical Engineer who enjoys taking a product from the design stage and working out how it can be manufactured effectively in the real world. Sitting between R&D and Production, you will take designs from the R&D team and develop the drawings, Bills of Materials and manufacturing information required to put them successfully into production. The role will broadly consist of: 60% Design for Manufacture 20% CAD/CAM nesting and machine programming 20% manufacturing process improvement This is an on-site position, approximately 80% office-based and 20% spent within the manufacturing environment working closely with Production, machinery and manufacturing processes. It isn't a purely office-based Design Engineering position or a purely machinery programming / nesting role. You will have the opportunity to see how designs translate into manufacture and make practical improvements to how products are produced. Key Responsibilities for this Manufacturing Design Engineer position Take designs from R&D and develop them for manufacture Produce and update 3D CAD models and manufacturing drawings Create and maintain Bills of Materials Prepare drawings and technical information required for Production Review designs and ensure they can be manufactured efficiently and effectively Carry out CAD/CAM nesting and programming for manufacturing machinery Support new products and design changes through to manufacture Work closely with Production to resolve manufacturing issues Identify and implement manufacturing process improvements Support tooling and wider manufacturing requirements Work closely with R&D, Production and Quality Essential Criteria for this Manufacturing Design Engineer position Previous experience within Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, CAD/CAM or a similar engineering role Strong 3D CAD experience Good understanding of engineering drawings and Design for Manufacture Experience within an engineering or manufacturing environment Practical understanding of manufacturing processes Strong technical problem-solving skills Comfortable working closely with Production and spending some time on the factory floor Experience with CAD/CAM, CNC programming, nesting, sheet metal or fabrication processes would be particularly advantageous. A relevant Engineering qualification would be beneficial, although experienced Engineers with a strong practical manufacturing background will also be considered. This position could particularly suit a Mechanical Design Engineer who wants greater involvement in Manufacturing, a Manufacturing Engineer with strong CAD skills, or a CAD/CAM Engineer looking for a broader engineering position.
