Vickerstock are proud to be working in partnership with a global leader in power and grid technology to recruit a Hardware/Electronics Engineer based in Belfast. This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly experienced engineering team developing market-leading monitoring and diagnostics products used by electrical utilities and industrial customers worldwide. You'll work on a varied role covering hardware design, fault finding, product improvement and manufacturing support, contributing to the ongoing development of innovative electronic products.
What you'll be doing:
- Troubleshooting complex electro-mechanical products and identifying robust engineering solutions.
- Designing and implementing hardware improvements and product updates.
- Working closely with hardware, software and firmware engineers to ensure seamless product integration.
- Managing small engineering projects to deliver customer requirements.
- Supporting manufacturing by improving product yield through the design of test procedures and test fixtures.
- Redesigning PCB assemblies to address component obsolescence and supply chain shortages.
- Participating in hardware design reviews and ensuring engineering standards are maintained.
- Providing technical support across the wider engineering function as required.
What you'll need:
- Degree in Electrical, Electronic or Mechatronics Engineering (HND applicants with relevant industry experience will also be considered).
- Previous experience in hardware or electronics design.
- Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.
- A good understanding of embedded systems.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Desirable experience:
- Schematic capture using Altium or similar ECAD software.
- PCB design, including multilayer boards.
- EMC design principles.
- FPGA development.
- Command Line Interface (CLI) experience.
- Firmware knowledge including RTOS or Linux.
- Python programming.
