Vickerstock are working in partnership with a leading food manufacturing business to recruit an Environmental Officer. This is an excellent opportunity for an environmental professional to take ownership of an established Environmental Management System while supporting sustainability and continuous improvement across a busy manufacturing site.
Working closely with operational teams and senior management, you will play a key role in ensuring environmental compliance, maintaining ISO 14001 certification, driving environmental performance, and supporting the organisation's sustainability objectives.
In your new role:
- Manage and continually improve the site's ISO 14001 Environmental Management System
- Coordinate internal and external ISO 14001 audits, ensuring ongoing certification and compliance
- Monitor compliance with environmental legislation, permits, licences, and regulatory requirements
- Maintain environmental policies, procedures, and associated documentation
- Monitor and report on key environmental performance metrics, including waste, energy, water, emissions, and recycling
- Analyse environmental data and prepare reports for senior management
- Identify and implement initiatives to improve environmental performance and reduce environmental impact
- Support sustainability projects and help deliver environmental objectives and targets
- Investigate environmental incidents, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions
- Liaise with regulatory authorities, waste contractors, and external auditors as required
What you'll need to succeed:
- Experience within an Environmental, Sustainability, or Environmental Compliance role
- Good understanding of UK environmental legislation and regulatory requirements
- Knowledge of environmental permitting, waste management, water treatment, and energy management
- Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Competent in Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while driving continuous improvement
Desirable (it would be great if you have this, but don't worry if you don't):
- Experience managing or supporting an ISO 14001 certified Environmental Management System
- Degree or qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Sustainability, or a related discipline
- Experience within food manufacturing or another regulated production environment
- Membership of a recognised professional body such as IEMA
