Vickerstock are working in partnership with a leading renewable energy and environmental organisation on the appointment of a SHEQ Manager. Reporting into senior management, you will lead the SHEQ function, oversee compliance, and drive continuous improvement across Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality standards. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced SHEQ professional looking to take ownership of a broad remit within a sustainability-focused business.
In your new role:
- Lead and develop the SHEQ function, setting objectives and promoting a positive safety culture across operational and engineering teams
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety and environmental legislation, alongside ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 requirements
- Manage and maintain relevant environmental and operational certifications, including PAS 110
- Plan and conduct internal audits, site inspections, and compliance checks across operational facilities
- Coordinate external audits and certification processes, ensuring actions are effectively managed and closed out
- Lead risk assessment processes and support operational teams in identifying and controlling workplace and environmental risks
- Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, completing root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions
- Develop, review and maintain SHEQ policies, procedures and management systems in line with legislation and best practice
- Deliver SHEQ training, toolbox talks, briefings and awareness initiatives across the business
- Develop relationships with regulatory bodies, including HSENI and NIEA, and support environmental permitting and compliance activities
- Monitor SHEQ performance trends, produce reports and identify opportunities for improvement
- Lead continuous improvement projects across multiple operational sites
- Support the development of internal auditing capability and promote strong SHEQ awareness throughout the organisation
- Provide professional SHEQ advice and guidance to operational and engineering teams
What you will need to succeed:
- 5+ years' experience within a SHEQ, HSE or similar role
- NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent
- Strong knowledge of UK and Northern Ireland Health & Safety and environmental legislation
- Experience with ISO management systems, particularly ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001
- Experience conducting internal audits, inspections and compliance assessments
- Strong incident investigation and risk management experience
- Ability to influence positive behaviours and drive continuous improvement
Desirable (it would be great if you have this, but don't worry if you don't):
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent higher-level Health & Safety qualification
- Professional membership of IOSH, IEMA or an equivalent professional body
- Internal or Lead Auditor qualification
- Experience within renewable energy, waste management, anaerobic digestion, manufacturing or another highly regulated operational environment
- Knowledge of environmental permitting and regulatory requirements
