Company and Role of R&D Engineer

Vickerstock are recruiting for an R&D Engineer on behalf of an established engineering and manufacturing business within County Tyrone. This is an excellent opportunity for a Design Engineer, Product Design Engineer or existing R&D Engineer who wants greater involvement in the development of new products while continuing to develop their broader engineering experience. Working as part of an established Engineering team, you will be involved across the design and development process, taking engineering ideas from initial concept through detailed design and into manufacture. The position offers a good mixture of new design, product development, practical engineering problem solving and the continued improvement of existing products.

Key Responsibilities for this R&D Engineer position:

  • Design and develop new products, components and engineering solutions
  • Develop concepts through 3D CAD into detailed production-ready designs
  • Produce 3D models, assemblies, engineering drawings and associated technical documentation
  • Develop and improve existing products to enhance performance, quality and manufacturability
  • Work closely with Manufacturing to ensure designs can be produced effectively
  • Support the introduction of new designs into production
  • Investigate technical and design-related issues and develop practical engineering solutions
  • Evaluate materials, components and manufacturing methods as part of the design process
  • Support product testing, design reviews and engineering validation activities
  • Identify opportunities to improve product performance and reduce manufacturing cost
  • Work collaboratively with Production and other Engineering personnel throughout product development

Essential Criteria for this R&D Engineer position:

  • Previous experience within Mechanical Design, Product Design, R&D Engineering or a similar engineering position
  • Experience designing products, machinery, equipment or fabricated components within a manufacturing environment
  • Strong 3D CAD design capability - SolidWorks experience would be particularly relevant, although experience with Creo, Solid Edge, Inventor or similar packages will also be considered
  • Ability to produce and interpret engineering drawings
  • Good understanding of Design for Manufacture and practical manufacturing processes
  • A third-level qualification within Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Manufacturing Engineering or another relatable Engineering discipline
  • Strong technical problem-solving ability
  • Experience within fabrication, sheet metal, machinery, equipment or another engineering manufacturing environment would be particularly relevant, although we are open to strong Design Engineers from other manufacturing sectors.
