Engineering Team Manager

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and capable Engineering Team Manager to join a busy and dynamic engineering operation within a leading UK fresh produce business.

Reporting to the Assistant Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for leading a team of engineering personnel and overseeing the day-to-day delivery of engineering and maintenance activities across operational sites and equipment.

Your focus will be on ensuring high standards of safety, compliance, reliability and operational efficiency, while developing your team and driving a culture of continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Directly manage, lead and develop members of the engineering team, ensuring they work safely, effectively and to the required standards.
  • Plan maintenance activities and allocate resources effectively to maximise equipment availability and operational uptime.
  • Ensure planned preventative maintenance (PPM) programmes are followed and maintenance activities are accurately recorded through the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Monitor the quality of engineering workmanship and provide regular coaching, mentoring and support to team members.
  • Liaise with internal departments, external customers and service providers to ensure effective, responsive and cost-efficient service delivery.
  • Ensure Health & Safety, welfare, environmental and food safety requirements are consistently maintained within the work area.
  • Promote a strong continuous improvement culture and actively involve the engineering team in projects and change initiatives.
  • Support the site's food safety culture and wider business improvement objectives.
  • Ensure sufficient trained and competent engineering resources are available to meet operational, safety, food safety and audit requirements.
  • Conduct performance appraisals, disciplinary meetings and career development discussions where required.
  • Complete accurate shift reports, ensuring key information, outstanding issues and follow-up actions are clearly communicated.
  • Work flexibly across departments and sites to meet changing business requirements and maintain strong collaborative relationships.

About You

We are looking for a confident and proactive engineering professional with strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate and develop a team.

You will ideally have

A minimum SVQ Level 3 qualification in an engineering discipline.

Previous experience of leading, supervising or managing an engineering/maintenance team.

A proactive approach with a strong focus on problem-solving and operational efficiency.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence people at all levels.

A strong understanding of Health & Safety and safe working practices.

Experience of planned preventative maintenance and computerised maintenance management systems.

A genuine passion for developing people and supporting career progression.

The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced operational environment.

A flexible and collaborative approach to working across departments and sites.
