Company and Role

Vickerstock are recruiting for an experienced Technical Author / Technical Writer on behalf of an established engineering and manufacturing business in Northern Ireland. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has experience taking complex engineering and technical information and translating it into clear, accurate and user-friendly documentation.

Working closely with Engineers and other technical personnel, you will gather and interpret information from a variety of sources before developing and maintaining the documentation required to support engineered products throughout their lifecycle. We are particularly interested in speaking with Technical Authors and Technical Writers, although candidates from Technical Documentation, Document Control or Engineering backgrounds who have strong technical writing experience may also be relevant.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce clear and accurate technical documentation for complex engineered products
  • Gather and interpret technical information from Engineers and other subject matter experts
  • Develop, review and update technical manuals, instructions and supporting documentation
  • Translate complex engineering information into documentation that can be clearly understood by its intended users
  • Maintain accurate document revisions and ensure information remains current
  • Review existing technical information and identify where documentation requires improvement or clarification
  • Coordinate documentation requirements across Engineering and other internal departments
  • Ensure technical documents are produced accurately and consistently
  • Manage multiple documentation requirements and priorities
  • Support the continued development and improvement of technical documentation processes

Essential Criteria

  • Previous experience within Technical Writing, Technical Authoring, Technical Documentation or a similar position
  • Experience producing technical documentation within an engineering, manufacturing or technically focused environment
  • Ability to understand and interpret engineering / technical information
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to explain technical information clearly and accurately
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Experience working with Engineers or other technical personnel to gather information
  • Good IT and document management skills
  • A third-level Engineering or technical qualification would be advantageous but is not essential where candidates can demonstrate strong relevant industry experience.

We would also be interested in speaking with experienced Engineering Document Controllers or Technical Documentation professionals who have been responsible for creating and developing technical content rather than solely controlling or administering documents.

To apply for this position, please submit your CV or contact Hugh Nugent at Vickerstock for a confidential discussion. All approaches will be dealt with in the strictest confidence.
