Vickerstock are working in partnership with a leading engineering and manufacturing organisation on the appointment of a Yard Supervisor in Garvagh. Reporting into senior management, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the yard, overseeing the movement, storage and preparation of materials while supervising the yard team and ensuring safe and efficient operations. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Yard Supervisor, Yard Manager or experienced material handling professional looking to take the next step within a busy heavy engineering and manufacturing environment.
In your new role:
- Take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the yard and material handling operations
- Supervise, organise and support the yard team to ensure production requirements are met
- Plan and prioritise daily workloads in line with production schedules and operational requirements
- Coordinate the receipt, movement, storage and preparation of materials across the yard
- Ensure materials and components are available to support ongoing production activities
- Maintain accurate stock records and ensure materials are correctly allocated and tracked
- Coordinate the movement of steel and other materials to the relevant production areas
- Ensure efficient loading, unloading and movement of materials throughout the site
- Monitor yard capacity and identify potential material shortages or operational issues
- Ensure yard equipment, machinery and lifting equipment are operated safely and by authorised personnel
- Support the maintenance and inspection of yard equipment where required
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and organisation across the yard
- Ensure materials are handled and stored safely to minimise damage, waste and disruption
- Monitor team performance, attendance and timekeeping, providing support and guidance where required
- Assist with the training and onboarding of new team members
- Promote a positive, respectful and team-focused working environment
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety procedures and safe systems of work
- Promote hazard and near-miss reporting and address unsafe practices promptly
- Work closely with Production and Engineering teams to ensure the smooth flow of materials
- Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at improving efficiency, productivity and material flow
What you will need to succeed:
- Previous experience supervising or leading a yard, material handling or logistics team
- Experience within a manufacturing, engineering, fabrication or heavy industrial environment
- Strong understanding of material handling and yard operations
- Experience working with steel, heavy materials or engineering products
- Proven ability to organise and prioritise workloads effectively
- Strong leadership and people management skills
- Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements within a busy industrial environment
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment
