Vickerstock are working with a leading manufacturing and technology business in Belfast to recruit a Buyer on an initial 3-month temporary contract, with a genuine opportunity for the role to go permanent. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous purchasing experience to join an established Supply Chain team within a busy manufacturing environment. Importantly, a permanent recruitment process will be taking place during the contract term, meaning there may be an opportunity for the successful temporary candidate to secure a permanent position.

The Role

As Buyer, you will be responsible for supporting the timely and efficient procurement of goods and services, working closely with suppliers, Production and other internal teams. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Placing and expediting purchase orders
  • Maintaining and managing delivery dates
  • Managing material shortages, particularly for critical products
  • Liaising with Production regarding purchasing and material requirements
  • Negotiating pricing and commercial terms with suppliers
  • Building and maintaining strong supplier relationships
  • Monitoring supplier performance and delivery targets
  • Obtaining supplier quotations and updating pricing information
  • Maintaining accurate data within the ERP system
  • Supporting stock accuracy and working closely with Materials Control
  • Resolving invoice and purchase order discrepancies
  • Liaising with departments across the business regarding procurement requirements

The role sits within the wider Supply Chain function and will involve regular collaboration with Purchasing, Materials Control, Logistics and Production teams.

What You'll Need

  • Previous experience working in a purchasing or Buyer role
  • Experience placing and expediting orders
  • Experience managing suppliers and delivery requirements
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Experience working with ERP or MRP systems
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work to deadlines
  • A proactive and positive approach to problem solving
  • Manufacturing purchasing experience would be beneficial, although candidates with strong purchasing experience from other environments will also be considered.

The position requires three years' experience in a purchasing role, while manufacturing experience is listed as desirable.
