Vickerstock are working in partnership with a leading specialist engineering firm on the appointment of a Health, Safety & Environmental Manager. This is a senior, hands-on HSE leadership role supporting manufacturing and assembly facilities, where you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving robust Health, Safety & Environmental systems.
Working closely with operational teams, project delivery functions, and senior leadership, you will ensure HSE considerations are embedded at every stage - from fabrication and assembly through to site installation. You will also lead and develop the HSE team, promote behavioural safety, and act as a key liaison across facilities, projects, and client stakeholders to ensure full compliance with legal, ISO, and client requirements.
In your new role:
- Develop, implement, and maintain HSE policies, procedures, and management systems aligned with legal, ISO, and client standards
- Lead HSE compliance across manufacturing and assembly operations, ensuring safe fabrication, modularisation, and installation activities
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, embedding behavioural safety and innovative best practice approaches
- Conduct and oversee risk assessments, site inspections, audits, and compliance monitoring across multiple facilities
- Lead investigations into incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective and preventive actions
- Collaborate with project delivery teams and client representatives to ensure HSE requirements are integrated into planning and execution
- Act as the primary HSE liaison for facilities, providing visible on-site support and expert guidance
- Develop and lead a team of Health & Safety Officers, including recruitment, mentoring, training, and performance management
- Allocate HSE resources effectively across projects and sites to ensure consistent oversight
- Monitor regulatory compliance and ensure environmental standards, including waste and sustainability requirements, are met
- Analyse HSE data and performance metrics, preparing reports and driving improvements based on trends
- Promote strong cross-functional communication to embed a positive, accountable safety culture
What you will need to succeed:
- 5 years' experience in an HSE role within a Manufacturing or Engineering environment
- Relevant Health and Safety qualifications (NEBOSH, etc)
- Experience leading, developing, and managing HSE teams
- Experience implementing and maintaining ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems
- Working knowledge of current HSE legislation and compliance frameworks
- Experience implementing and managing Health & Safety systems and practices across multiple sites
- Experience in carrying out investigations, audits and reporting
Desirable (it would be great if you have this, but don't worry if you don't):
- Familiarity with digital HSE management systems and tools
- Experience with Environmental and Sustainability initiatives (e.g., waste management, carbon footprint reduction)
- Experience in delivering internal HSE training
