We are proud to be partnering with a highly respected and established business within the industrial refrigeration and process cooling industry, who are looking to recruit a Refrigeration Applications Engineer to join their regional projects team in the North of the UK, with the ideal engineer will be living in or around Manchester, Leeds and Derby.

The successful Refrigeration Applications Engineer will use their practical refrigeration knowledge and industry experience to develop technical solutions, support customers and work closely with sales and project teams from initial concept through to successful project completion.

The Role – Refrigeration Applications Engineer

As a Refrigeration Applications Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting the design, development and delivery of industrial refrigeration solutions.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Designing and developing technical refrigeration and process cooling solutions from concept through to completion.
  • Working closely with Sales Managers to provide technical support, develop quotations and deliver tailored customer solutions.
  • Supporting new and existing customers with expert refrigeration advice and system recommendations.
  • Carrying out technical calculations including heat load calculations, pipe sizing and system design for direct and indirect refrigeration systems.
  • Reviewing customer requirements and developing commercially viable engineering solutions.
  • Supporting projects from estimation through to execution, ensuring technical and financial objectives are achieved.
  • Providing technical guidance to customers, subcontractors and internal teams.
  • Supporting the successful delivery of projects while maintaining excellent engineering standards.

About You – Refrigeration Applications Engineer

We are looking for a technically strong Refrigeration Applications Engineer with a solid background within industrial refrigeration.

This role would suit someone who has previously worked as a Refrigeration Engineer and has gained valuable hands‑on experience on the tools, including servicing, commissioning, maintaining or installing industrial refrigeration systems.

You may currently be working as a

  • Commissioning Engineer and be looking for an opportunity to move into a more technical, design and applications‑focused role.

The ideal Refrigeration Applications Engineer will have

  • Strong practical experience within industrial refrigeration or process cooling.
  • Experience working on refrigeration systems in the field.
  • A good understanding of how systems are installed, commissioned, serviced and maintained.
  • Experience with ammonia refrigeration systems is highly desirable.
  • A proactive approach with excellent problem‑solving skills.
  • The confidence to communicate with customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • The ability to combine technical expertise with commercial awareness.
  • Required Experience & Qualifications – Refrigeration Applications Engineer
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience within the refrigeration/process cooling industry.
  • Previous experience working as a Refrigeration Engineer.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial refrigeration systems.
  • Experience with ammonia (NH₃) refrigeration systems is desirable.
  • Knowledge of CO₂, HFC refrigerants and pumped fluid systems.
  • Experience with DX and indirect refrigeration systems.
  • Understanding of modern refrigeration control systems.
  • A recognised engineering qualification or equivalent technical experience.
