An exciting opportunity is now available for an IT & Data Systems Engineer to join a leading manufacturing business with an ambitious systems development program. Due to the nature of the manufacturing operational environment, technology issues will have a direct impact on production uptime, safety and customer delivery, and a Production-first mindset is key!
Main Purpose of Role:
- To own and improve the reliability of factory-floor systems and production data flows, bridging IT, Operational Technology and business reporting needs.
- To support all Operational Technology - plant-floor PCs, industrial connectivity and vendor access patterns and ensure production data flow is stable, monitored, and well-documented.
- To help monitor, maintain and develop the data systems/reporting within the business, ensuring quality data and reporting is available and well-documented.
The role works closely with the Infrastructure & Security Engineer to ensure OT networks are securely segmented, and with the DBA & Systems Development Engineer to maintain resilient SQL/reporting pipelines.
Key Responsibilities
- OT Systems: Support and maintain plant-floor PCs, terminals, and industrial endpoints used in production operations. Own Operational Technology connectivity troubleshooting in collaboration with Engineering and Vendors. Support OT network structure and segmentation (VLANs, access paths).
- Data & Production Flows: Primary owner for production systems/data flows reliability, monitoring, and issue resolution. Work with DBA & Systems Development Engineer to troubleshoot SQL/ETL job failures that impact production reporting or operational decision-making.
- Day-to-Day Housekeeping: Daily health checks on production data flow. Daily review of production-impacting alerts/incidents and ensure escalation path is followed when required. Maintain an up-to-date Operational Technology asset inventory.
Skills & Experience
- Skills: Production-first mindset with calm, structured troubleshooting under pressure. Strong analytic and problem-solving skills. Strong communication skills to work across Operations, Engineering, Finance and third-party vendors.
- Experience: Experience supporting systems in a manufacturing/industrial environment or in a role with high uptime requirements. Strong understanding of networking fundamentals (IP, VLANs, routing concepts) and how connectivity impacts shop-floor systems. Practical experience supporting Windows endpoints and basic server/service dependencies in an operational environment. Working knowledge of SQL fundamentals. Comfortable coordinating vendors and maintaining disciplined documentation.
- Desirable: Experience supporting production data systems and integrations. Experience working with IT segmentation concepts and vendor access governance. Power BI / reporting awareness. Experience with ticketing systems and basic ITIL-style incident/change processes.
