Multi Skilled Maintenance Engineer - Electrical Bias
MULTI SKILLED MAINTENANCE ENGINEER - ELEC BIAS
ABERYSTWYTH
PERMANENT FULL TIME
Our client is a successful and rapidly growing FMCG business who are proud to have recently been recognised by the Financial Times as one of the UK's fastest growing companies, reflecting the continued growth and success of their business.
As they continue to grow, they are looking for an experienced Multi Skilled Maintenance Engineer with an electrical bias to join their engineering team.
This is a hands‑on engineering role for a time‑served engineer with a strong electrical background, excellent fault‑finding skills and the ability to work across both electrical and mechanical equipment. We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, works safely and professionally, and wants to become a valued member of our engineering team.
The Role
As a multi skilled Maintenance Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring our production equipment operates safely, reliably and efficiently.
The role has a strong electrical maintenance and fault finding focus, with responsibility for responding to breakdowns, carrying out planned preventative maintenance and identifying opportunities to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
Although the role is electrically biased, you will also be required to undertake mechanical maintenance and repair work. We are therefore looking for someone who is genuinely multi-skilled and enjoys working hands‑on within a busy manufacturing environment.
You will work closely with the Production and Operations teams to ensure that equipment issues are resolved quickly and effectively, helping us maintain production performance and minimise downtime.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on production machinery and associated equipment.
- Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and carry out effective reactive maintenance.
- Undertake electrical testing, fault finding and repairs.
- Investigate equipment failures and identify the root cause of recurring faults.
- Carry out mechanical maintenance, repairs and adjustments as required.
- Work safely and efficiently to minimise production downtime.
- Assist with continuous improvement projects designed to improve equipment reliability, efficiency and performance.
- Identify potential equipment issues before they result in breakdowns.
- Maintain accurate maintenance, breakdown and engineering records.
- Identify spare parts and materials required for maintenance activities.
- Work closely with Production, Operations and other departments to resolve engineering issues.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping within engineering and production areas.
- Ensure all engineering activities comply with company procedures, health and safety requirements, food safety standards and site hygiene requirements.
- Provide engineering support across the site when required.
- Undertake other reasonable engineering duties.
Essential Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- Minimum HNC in Electrical Engineering.
- Proven experience in electrical maintenance within industrial or manufacturing environments.
- Strong knowledge of electrical theory, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- The ability to diagnose electrical faults and identify effective solutions.
- Good practical mechanical maintenance and repair skills.
- A hands‑on approach to engineering and maintenance.
- PLC knowledge and experience.
- Experience working with automated machinery and industrial control systems.
- Experience contributing to continuous improvement and reducing equipment downtime.
Working Hours
The position operates on a Monday to Friday rotating shift pattern:
Week 1: 6:00am - 2:30pm
Week 2: 2:00pm - 10:30pm
Some overtime outside normal shift hours will be required to support planned maintenance, production requirements and occasional breakdowns. Flexibility around working hours is therefore an important part of the role.
Salary & Benefits
£42,000 - £48,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.
Permanent, full‑time position.
28 days annual leave.
