Undergraduate Industrial Placement Materials Scientist (12 Months Fixed-Term)

The Role & What You Will Be Doing

The Undergraduate Industrial Placement Materials Scientist role will work within the Global Respiratory Group at Viatris, helping to develop respiratory medicines such as DPIs, MDIs, and nebulised products.

The placement offers 12 months of experience in a working laboratory at a top 20 global pharmaceutical company.

Responsibilities

• Carry out analytical activities required to deliver new respiratory products to clinical studies and commercialisation.
• Execute experiments to generate scientific understanding in development of analytical methods, formulations and processes.
• Perform analyses related to clinical supplies, stability, and process scale up.
• Process data: highlight aberrant or suspect results and work with supervisor to investigate.
• Maintain laboratory documentation in accordance with good documentation practices.
• Maintain and troubleshoot instrumentation.
• Contribute to project delivery by carrying out other tasks such as laboratory housekeeping, ordering, shipping samples as required.

Qualifications & Experience

• Registered in an undergraduate chemistry or pharmaceutical sciences related degree program, with at least 2 years of study completed and not having graduated at start of placement.
• Familiar with basic principles of analytical chemistry.
• Good IT skills (Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point).
• Can work collaboratively within a team environment.
• Can organise tasks allocated by supervisor and plan own work to achieve high‑quality results in a timely manner following established analytical methods and operating procedures.
• Enthusiastic to work in a lab‑based role.
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Additional Desirable Skills
• Knowledge and/or experience of modern instrumental methods of analysis (particle sizing, FT‑IR, SEM, thermal analysis techniques).
• Experience or knowledge of development and testing of inhalation products.
• Experience or knowledge of physical properties testing (particle size, surface area, amorphous content).
• Good understanding of laboratory safety and best practice.
• Knowledge of c GMP.
