What you'll do

Space agencies around the world are investing heavily into lunar exploration with the aim of establishing the Moon as a platform for mankind to become a multi-planetary species. Lunar exploration missions are furthering key scientific objectives around surviving and prospering in space as well as providing information on the origins of life as a whole. The lunar roadmap foresees in-situ resource utilisation on the Moon to establish a permanent human presence during the 2030s, as well as using the Moon as a “refuelling station” for further space exploration to Mars and beyond. As part of the investment into lunar exploration, European Space Agency (ESA) created the Moonlight programme – a private-public partnership. Moonlight will develop new communications and navigation capabilities and services that will be provided to missions on and around the Moon through the launch of dedicated infrastructure. Viasat is entering the programme as the design authority for the communications service, responsible for design and procurement of the space segment, ground segment and user infrastructure to provide communications services by the end of the decade.

We are seeking a systems-oriented engineer to lead the integration, verification, validation (IVV), and operational readiness of a complex satellite communications system. You will ensure alignment from satellite manufacture through to ground operations and service delivery, with a focus on the entire end-to-end chain.

The day-to-day

  • Define and implement a comprehensive end-to-end communications verification strategy across terminal, ground, and space segments. Lead the development and execution of the system-level IVV roadmap for the communications service.
  • Design and implement an end-to-end communications test bed, identifying and engaging industry partners as needed.
  • Own the test lifecycle, including defining verification methods, maintaining Verification Control Matrices (VCMs) and Documents (VCDs), generating Test Plans, Test Procedures, and issuing Test Reports.
  • Support the planning and execution of Satellite Validation Tests (SVT), including simulation campaigns and operations command/telemetry validation.
  • Contribute to the planning and definition of System Operational Validation scenarios and test cases.
  • Work closely with system architects and service delivery team to ensure IVV activities align with the end-to-end communications system design, as well as service provisioning needs.
  • Contribute to end-to-end system design activities where needed, including consolidation of architecture, interfaces and CONOPS.

What you'll need

  • Degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Systems Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in system engineering, IVV, and satellite operations.
  • Familiarity with satellite ground systems, resource management systems, and automated testing tools.
  • Strong understanding of test lifecycle processes: from requirements analysis through to testing and reporting.
  • Experience working across multi-disciplinary teams and external stakeholders, including manufacturers and service integrators.

What will help you on the job

  • Experience in satellite communications service verification and/or space mission operations.
  • Exposure to ESA or institutional satellite programs.
  • Hands-on experience with simulation-based validation and flight operations preparation.
