The Infrastructure and Technical Architecture team at Synnovis are looking for the right person to expand our team’s ability to support the expanded business and its shift to cloud-based platforms. The successful candidate will be joining a small but growing team to meet the growing needs of the business. We welcome candidates bringing their wide and varied experience, in particular where it might pertain to the healthcare industry, and their demonstrable good and secure practices to further bolster our team and our efforts to provide a highly secure environment for the business.

The successful candidate will be working with modern cloud-based environments, identity, and modern managed endpoints; supporting, monitoring, managing, documenting, and maintaining existing platforms whilst providing their wealth of insights and experience in future planning and delivery. The successful candidate will be working with all levels of the business, wherever the subject matter experts exist, to ensure that future projects and workloads are supported with the very best technical advice and guided to the best outcomes for the business.

Main duties of the job:

  • The Infrastructure and Technical Architecture team at Synnovis are currently a six-person team, expanding to an eleven-person team as part of this recruitment process.
  • The sub-set of that department you will be joining is the Server and Cloud team.
  • We operate out of our central hub of operations at Friars Bridge Court, Blackfriars, with options to work remotely as business needs require.
  • We have in the last eighteen months been through a challenging migration of all our services from a traditional data centre to cloud-based solutions as a result of a cyber-attack whilst simultaneously managing the migration of a significant proportion of our laboratory workflow from labs distributed around our Trust partners’ sites to a centralised location.
  • This has given us an unparalleled opportunity to use new technologies to deliver our services and recreate our environments to highly secure standards.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities:

At Synnovis, we are currently shaping the future of pathology services by creating a world-leading Hub and Spoke pathology network with our NHS partners. A large part of this modernisation will involve moving 70% of our services to a purpose built, state of the art Hub laboratory in the heart of London. For now, the job you are applying for will be based at one of our hospital sites however, from 1 April 2024 our people and services will start to move to our Hub laboratory in Blackfriars, Southwark, SE1, with some work remaining in refurbished essential services laboratories across our hospital network, focusing on the rapid turnover of urgent tests.

Purpose of the Job: To support the Server and Cloud Platform Lead in maintaining a highly secure server environment, identity platform, endpoint management platform, and associated systems, to the highest external and internal standards. Providing the business with the tools necessary to carry out their primary function, and to support them in the use of those tools. To bring their practical experience of best practice to further enhance our environment.

What you will do:

  • Support, monitor, manage, document, and maintain existing server platforms, and provide insights and experience in future planning and delivery.
  • Work to a robust framework under which we can provide safe and secure access under a least permissions principle to users who are required to work with our resources.
  • Work with multiple sources of information and ensure that records are accurate.
  • Monitor access and investigate any issues relating to identity across our platforms.
  • Provide a third-line equivalent support for ServiceDesk and End User Technology teams.
  • Follow incident management and request fulfilment through established procedures.
  • Document and maintain current and future workloads and processes, and records necessary for operation of the business.
  • Support planned project work where necessary for both planning, implementation, early support and transition into a supported model.
  • Optionally provide out-of-hours telephone support as part of a rota to support resolution of significant outages or planned maintenance works.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Cloud and Server Team lead in supporting the wider business.
  • Undertake support and project work within the business as required.
  • Perform daily operational checks on multiple systems.
  • Monitor ticketing system and act on tickets raised.
  • Monitor monitoring platform and act on alerts.

Person specification:

Qualifications:

  • Essential criteria: English GCSE grade C, 4, equivalent or higher.
  • Mathematics GCSE grade C, 4, equivalent or higher.

Experience:

  • Essential criteria: Windows Server operating systems, Microsoft Active Directory or Entra Domain Services, Microsoft Entra, Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft PowerShell, Microsoft Remote Desktop Server environments (RDS) or Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD).
  • Desirable criteria: Experience of working in an environment with change management, Experience of working in an ITIL environment, Experience of working in a healthcare environment.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Essential criteria: Demonstrate an ability to work as part of a team.
