About the opportunity

Via is partnering with a leading global business intelligence and media organisation to recruit a Senior Reporter for its London-based editorial team.

You’ll cover the fast-moving private equity and M&A market across Europe, with a strong emphasis on original reporting rather than simply covering announcements.

The role is about breaking news, securing exclusives, developing industry sources and identifying the story behind market developments. You’ll interview senior private equity professionals, investment bankers and deal advisers, while producing a mix of breaking news, analysis, features, profiles and newsletters.

This is suited to an experienced business or financial journalist who already has strong reporting credentials and wants greater ownership, visibility and access within the private markets industry.

What you’ll be doing

• Produce at least three high-quality articles each week
• Break news and regularly develop exclusive stories
• Cover private equity transactions, firms, fundraising, people moves and wider market developments
• Go beyond reporting announcements to explain their commercial and market significance
• Develop and maintain relationships with private equity professionals, investment bankers and deal advisers
• Conduct interviews with senior industry figures
• Build and maintain a strong network of industry sources
• Identify emerging trends across private equity and M&A
• Produce longer-form features, profiles, analysis and columns
• Write and increasingly take ownership of regular email newsletters
• Use financial, market and proprietary data to strengthen reporting
• Produce tables, charts and infographics where appropriate
• Work with editors to develop angles, sources and story structures
• Attend and report from industry events
• Represent the publication at conferences, panels and other events
• Potentially moderate panels and participate in podcasts or video content
• Use LinkedIn to promote journalism and engage with the industry
• Support and share expertise with less experienced reporters
• Potentially edit articles and take ownership of selected editorial projects
• Use AI tools appropriately within editorial guidelines
• Follow high standards of journalistic ethics when handling confidential or sensitive information

What we’re looking for

You’ll need:

• 5+ years of business or financial journalism experience
• A strong track record of breaking news and securing exclusives
• Excellent interviewing, reporting and writing skills
• Experience developing and maintaining industry sources
• Strong news judgement and the ability to identify original story angles
• Experience producing both breaking news and longer-form journalism
• The ability to explain complex financial and commercial subjects clearly
• Confidence working with senior industry contacts
• Strong analytical skills and an interest in data-led journalism
• Excellent attention to detail
• The ability to work quickly and accurately to deadlines
• Confidence managing several stories and projects simultaneously
• Experience using digital publishing and research tools
• Familiarity with Excel and other tools for interrogating data
• An understanding of social platforms such as LinkedIn

Experience covering private equity or M&A is particularly valuable.

We’re also interested in established business and financial journalists covering areas that regularly intersect with private equity, including investment banking, deals, corporate finance, asset management, capital markets or specific sectors with significant PE activity.
